So basically, I attend the Smeal College of Business at Penn State (University Park) and I really don't like how it's in the middle of nowhere and how a lot of people like partying here. Thus, I have decided to consider transferring to Northeastern University, Boston University, and Boston College. I am currently a freshmen so I intend to transfer after my freshmen year is over.

SAT: 1840
Math-700
Writing- 630
CR- 510

High School GPA: 3.94 (All regular classes, except I took AP Calculus and AP Government in senior year)
Work Experience: I worked at an accounting firm for $10/hr.
Volunteering: Hospital/Bolivia Mission Trip for 2 years in a row
Clubs: A bunch of clubs in high school (I don't know if this matters)

College GPA: I can't calculate this since the first semester isn't over yet but I've gotten a 95 on my Calc Midterm, an 85 on my Economics midterm, an 86 on my elective midterm, and a 100 on my first spanish test.

Do you guys think I have a good chance at either one of those 3 schools? I know it is a bit early to decide if i'll get accepted or not but I need some advice and some predictions.

NE-Admitted (barring a successful first semester)

Keep up the good work this first semester and you shouldn't have a problem with BU and NE. BC looks like it might be a stretch but not an impossibility.

Transcripts are the biggest deal when it comes to transfers. I know several NE transfers with 3.0 averages from prior schools and SATs similar to yours, so it's a good possibility.

Are you ready for the financial jump in cost if you do transfer?

Studied, NE does not guarantee to meet financial need to all of its student, nor does it do so. As a rule, most schools are stingier with Transfers' aid packages. Many schools that do guarantee to meet 100%of need do not extend this policy to Transfers. Also the tuition at NE is a lot more than what Penn State costs even if you OOS to PA. So you are going to have a much bigger tuiton nut right off the bat to cover, and no guarantee that the college will meet your need. However, to get a specific answer, you should use the NPC for Northeastern which will give you what a freshman with your financial could expect ON AVERAGE from the school, and then call NE and ask what their financial aid policies and percentages of need met are for transfer students. BU does not guarantee to meet full need either and though BC does for initial freshman applicants, the policy may not be the same for transfer students. YOu have to ask.
