Do I have to apply as transfer?

At my second year of "college" at the Air Force Academy. I'm getting an Honorable Discharge. My GPA here is a 2.8 and I'm in my third semester of college. 2.8 GPA is about the average here at the academy given the rigorous life of a service academy cadet. My high school stats were a little better. Had a 93% overall and scored alright on the SAT: 590 Verbal, 750 Math, 540 writing. (English is my second language and I'm fluent in Chinese.) AP Tests: 4 on AP Euro, 4 on AP Stats, 3 on AP World History.

bottom line, do i have to apply as a transfer student if i don't finish this semester?

While the definition of a transfer varies with the school, if you have completed a year of full time college, you will be considered a transfer applicant at all schools.

Thank you for the feedback. What do you think my chances are? Since i'll be transferring from a service academy, would other colleges be more understanding about my lower than usual GPA compare to other schools? Also, we take about 20 credits a semester on top of a military and an athletic schedule to follow.

I wish I could help you with Chances, but we get so few people transferring from the Service Academies, I honestly don't know how schools will evaluate your gpa within that context.

My main advice would be to also apply to schools you are more likely to be accepted to, including your In-state public colleges.

Thank you for your feedback. Do you know if colleges normally put a high emphasis on High School stats for the applicants that transfer after freshman year?
