Transferring from JHU help

So I am a freshman undergrad at Johns Hopkins studying Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and everything is going fine but I am considering transferring to a more "social" school aka basically a bigger school. I'm originally from North Carolina and would love to find a good college (preferrably farther south) with strong engineering overall and I really like my current major so if I could keep it that would be great. I know JHU has a great program so I feel weird transferring but I think that there is more to college than just a good education, specifically I would love to be able to join a big fraternity and go to huge football games which just isnt really an option here. Anyways, any suggestions you have on colleges that fit one or a few of these criteria would be great!

Although engineering isn't their strongest program, based on your desires I think Vanderbilt sounds like a perfect fit!

Another option would be Georgia Tech.

If Texas isn't too far away, Rice is a great school. Not as big as you want but they usually have a great baseball team.

JHU is a really good school. What about Duke? I don't know many really good engineering schools in the south.

I actually live right next to duke and was expecting to get in there but it didnt work out so now I'm here. Actually i got waitlisted then denied from vandy which is weird and i got into georgia tech but chose here. I think I'll be applying to all of them again. Texas is a bit of a stretch for me, but does anyone know anything about virginia tech? I've heard that engineering in general is good there. Also I would really like to go to Illinois or Michigan if they werent so far away.

For ChemE, I would prefer UC Berkeley. Berkeley Chemical Engineering ranked #2 of the nation (#1 is MIT). The Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering Department at Berkeley is really famous. Some of my friends go there and they like it. You can apply for transfer in Fall 13. The deadline for UC transfer is November 30.

yeah but UC is way too far away, I dont think i could make that work out. i need to stay near the east coast

I think NC State is really highly ranked in ChemE. I think there is very strong Biotech in the Research Triangle and thus it's seems pretty strong if you want to go in that direction.

one of my friends goes to michigan and likes it but i think it may be a bit too cold and north. im thinking vanderbilt and virginia tech are good for me because theyre more southern. also ive visited nc state a lot and am just not a big fan of it....ive done a lot of summer programs there because its only about 30 minutes from where i live and its just not very appealing to me
