| tjmoss22- Congrats! Assuming USC is your first choice, what school would you choose as your second choice?
Ya I'm still waiting for my backup school Boston Univ. and I have to wait next week until finals are over to send in my Spring grades to USC. This is going to be a long summer... |

| For those of you who've been wanting to know how the acceptance packet looks like, this is what I saw and felt.
The packet came in a big white envelope with the USC logo stamped on the front. When I first saw it, I was nervous as hell knowing what it could contain and what it could NOT contain. At first, I couldn't tell whether it was just a giant advertisement, a catalog, or some sort of a confirmation packet. When I tore it open, I pulled out a beautiful, thick, red folder with the official USC university insignia painted in gold on the front. Right below the insignia were five of the most comforting words a USC applicant could hear: "Welcome to the Trojan Family." At that point, I was ecstatic yet apprehensive, I had to make sure this wasn't some cheap trick or illusion, an extension of one of the many dreams I've had of being accepted. I opened the folder and here were the documents I found: An official letter stating my acceptance (the letter itself was quite well-written and encouraging), a statement of my class standing (major, sophomore, CLAS, etc.), a set of instructions on how to enroll into USC (housing, transcripts, etc.), an offical certificate of admission (similar to a HS diploma), a booklet detailing all the different housing options on campus, and finally, a booklet describing the USC experience as well as the prestige of the entering class. I've personally decided to keep the admission packet for sentimental reasons even though there's a good chance I won't be attending USC. All I can say is after being rejected as a HS applicant and vowing to get straight A's in college so I can attain that which I was denied a year ago, it felt REALLY gratifying to finally be able to hold that packet. That's to say nothing of how good it feels to know that I won't have to worry about grades anymore, no more anxious afternoons or paranoid all-nighters, no more sucking up to professors or calling the USC office of admission every other hour. If I had to compare the kind of freedom I felt to anything else, I'd say that it's like running 3 miles in 100 degree weather and sweating like a mofo, then slowing down, resting, then diving into a cool swimming pool and relaxing on one of those floating beds with a cold glass of lemonade.
For you guys who are still in USC limbo, hang in there, it'll be worth it when you do get in. =)

| Tony Stark - Congrats to you too! My brother used to be (or still is?) in Toastmasters. He said it really did a lot for his public speaking skills.
"Who else checks this thread on their phones when they're NOT by a computer? *raises hand* guilty."
a la idioteque - I totally would, but luckily my crappy cell phone doesn't have that capability and I lug my Mac around with my anyway to class (well, I have been lately). On a side note, I spent 12 straight hours at school yesterday. That is the longest time I have EVER stayed at school without a break; I was scared that if I went home, I would get distracted and not get my work done. Turns out I didn't get much done anyway. I totally blame all of you.
"Or trying to get drunk off Smirnoff Ice."
Easy - Unless you were me in high school. Haha. [Disclaimer for the underage drinking nazis here (if there are any): I grew up in Oz where the legal drinking age is 18 so it wasn't THAT crazy to drink at 16 and 17] |

| "I think everyone who has already decided on another school should withdraw their application from USC and open up more spots for us hahaha."
A la idioteque - Yessssss.
"Going from a CCC to Fullerton is kind of anti-climactic, you know? It'd be like going to a bigger CCC, commuting and all. But USC...! Be still my heart. Call me superficial, haha."
einna - I know where you're coming from. I want to get out of my CSU for a bunch of reasons, but one of those reasons is definitely superficial. The only reason I'm here in the first place is because I was desperate to leave Canada in a hurry, and the CSU I'm attending had rolling admissions and pretty much accepts anyone with a 2.0 GPA or higher. I haven't regretted a minute of being here though. I've had some GREAT profs, realized that I learn best in a smaller classroom environment, gained a lot of confidence in myself by getting nice grades (which is so not hard at this school considering most people don't give a crap) and decided through taking a host of GE classes how much I loved sociology.
"hope i don't get flamed for this, but i was wondering if anyone on here has applied and is still waiting to hear from ucla? their transfer board is dead, and I still have no decision"
lastofthepirates - Not sure if this has been said yet, but I found your comment kind of ironic.. with your username and all |

| From "Edit Options" under "My Control Panel: "You may choose to allow other users to download a vCard containing your email address and username.
If you want to keep your email address private, do not allow vCard downloads."
Ahahahaha I don't even have a joke to accompany this glorious find. |

i can never pass up an opportunity to impart grammar wisdom...
"of my aunt" is the same thing as "aunt's"
"aunts" would just be more than one aunt and if you were trying to say something belonged to more than one of your aunts it would be aunts' |

| "seriously, i went and sat in a lecture and played on campus and i guess if i get rejected from USC then i could tolerate going there, but i really want to go to USC."
ksbr - I like your use of the word *tolerate* for UCLA. Lol. I would never dream of using that word for USC!! I still haven't visited Cal yet when there are actual students milling around and classes taking place but I reallllly need to before their semester ends or I'll never know if it's a place that I'd be able to *tolerate* or love/like.
"mapletree - What was so nice about this movie? Not my cup of tea."
Mixtec (& lastofthepirates) - Maybe it's partly because I know how tedious it is to make a movie (I don't even know the half though; making a comparison between iMovie from 2001/02 and Final Cut is a bit ridiculous) but I liked the overall mood of the video. I thought the song and the video made sense together, you know? For example, I really like the song "Say It Ain't So" by Weezer, but I did not like and 'get' the video for that, even though it was directed by Sophie Muller (who is my fav video director of all time - she did Mr. Brightside by The Killers).
"oh mapletree... i feel your pain. we are almost there..."
DOXIEgirl - I know. Soooo close but yet so far.
"15. Be an attractive girl. All is good."
Easy - If only life were that.. easy. :P
"mapletree- i'm sure your speech probably went better than you thought. did you tell your prof. that USC has you on a string right now? he/she should understand your situation!"
lastofthepirates - Haha. This was actually one of the profs who wrote me a kick-a$$ rec letter for USC last semester (taking him again this semester) but since he found out I got into Cal he's been all about it. He taught at Cal for a few years so he's totally biased. I asked him how my speech went and he said I sounded like a valley girl lol but that it was not *too* bad. He also said he's seen much worse, thank god. Again, one of the pleasures of going to a school where no one cares about academics. PS. 8 essays? Wow. That is all.
"my women's studies class has way too much material to study for a non-final class, and my nutrition class has a 200pt project due next week."
ksbr - That just reminded me of something. Someone told me her friend graduated with a degree in Women's Lib (something like that) from Cal and is now working at the human resources department at Google. Random, but encouraging in that I guess what you major in really doesn't matter. |
