ChrisEW22 - Definitely address your challenges in your application essay. Emphasize how you overcame them. That's what it's really about -- it's how you respond to the situation you're in. Do you rise above it? Or do you let it bring you down? You're taking summer classes, that's good -- do well in those and continue progressing in your classes for fall '08 and spring '09.

There aren't really any guarantees with college admissions, but you can be certain that USC takes people who encounter obstacles and overcome them very seriously. That's one of the things I appreciate most about the school. They recognize that not everyone is gonna have a perfect everything. Nobody's perfect. At my school, I work at the disability programs & resources center and I see students everyday with visual or hearing impairments and various other challenges who are still succeeding regardless of those challenges, so it can be done!

So if USC is what you really want, stay motivated and disciplined and you'll do well. Good luck, man.

usc24-actually i have a 99 in my nutrition class, which is a bit odd haha. i've been studying my butt off plus my prof is super chill and she lets you drop an exam, gives a ton of extra credit, she is super thorough in discussing topics and you can email her and she'll get back to you MAX 12 hours, and is really just a great mentor. all professors should be like her!

chris-welcome, and don't give up! you have a unique situation and usc knows and understand that kind of stuff-that everyone has a different path to an education and life circumstances, so as long as you explain it in your application, then they'll take it into consideration.

Got the package today. I feel kind of bad taking away a spot from someone who actually has the means to attend. Unless they're willing to give me a crazy amount of scholarships and grants, I won't be attending.

Anyways, the packet is pretty nice. Stupid mailman folded it up though. Idiot.

I am an economics major.

I'm not really sure what my GPA is that they looked at. I'm thinking a lot of my courses probably were not transferrable. If I had to guess though my overall GPA was in the 3.70-3.75 range. If there are any specifics you'd like to know, feel free to ask.

DJ, if you search through my old posts I updated my status on the date of the change. You should be able to find it, if not I'll find them and let you know.

Nice to see you fighting for what you really want, I'm sure athletes take up a lot of time, as it requires more commitment than any other students, why don't you take up the sport again?

Let's keep working at it and make every week count, I hope to see your progress soon.

@chris

Thanks.. Honestly my coach at uci ruined it for me. He is terrible and needs to be fired but the school puts academics over athletics so change is hard..

I may continue to play if USC doesnt work out.. At ucsb.. Which have won and fight for national championships.. And I have lots of friends that go there..

I included that soccer was my life and I was recruited on nearly full scholarship but made a career decision by applying to USC.. I was an athlete so kept around a 2.5 and the last 2 quarters I obviously started caring and I'm around a 2.8 now.. I applied for fall of 08 though.. Its really a toss up if I get in but I'm assuming no because of GPA.. But the rest of my app is strong and all GEs done so who knows!

P.s. Ive lurked around this board for awhile just finally registered cause things are exciting.. Posted from my iPhone sorry if there's errors heh
