| usc24 - i've lived in each region of the country (including socal) and I would stick right where you are if it were up to me. i currently live in new england (very close to boston). you'll be happy with bu, bc boston is a great city, and providence, ri (very nice city) is close by. i'm originally from the midwest, and i've lived two places in the south. there is nowhere in the country, to my mind, that i would rather be than socal. you can't beat it for things to do, culture (the epicenter, ny doesn't compare), food, variety of nature. hmm... i'm starting to daydream... |

| lastofthepirates- Thanks for your input. I agree that we have everything down here and no doubt that I love living in SoCal, but if I don't get accepted to USC, then I have no choice but to go to BU because I only applied to USC, Boston, and WSU. USC is my first choice and WSU is not even the picture right now lol. I'm actually visiting Boston this summer because I'm going to check out BU's campus and I have family in Worcester. Have you been to Worcester? |

| Sigh... everyone here has a gpa of 3.5 or above, i'm at 2.8 right now, and i'm taking summer courses to increase my GPA, USC has been my dream school but it seems like reading all this has shattered my dreams. Now i'm questioning whether I should even bother applying to usc for fall transfer 2009. I go to Embry-Riddle btw studying aerospace engineering, and I was diagnosed with deafness in my second semester here and this really affected my grades in my first two years, I have adapted though, and registered with disability services too late (end of my second year and i'm going into my junior this fall).
I ask my friend's to explain the notes I take in class (I can hear a little in my right ear when someone is at least a foot away but they have to speak louder than usual). If I do apply how would I tell USC about my condition? and would they take this into consideration?
I really regret getting help late, it was in part, due to my ego (as I did not want to face the fact I was going deaf) and the complicated hearing impairment I have, there really is no cure for tinnitus and the hearing loss I have, and a standard hearing aid would just make inaudible noise a lot louder and irritating (not exactly make me hear better).
What else can I do to boost my chances? or explain my situation? you think anyone got in with a 3.0? (considering I get all As for my summer course as I am taking two courses Dynamics and Fluid Mechanics).
Thanks a lot guys. |

| usc24 - oh yeah! worcester (pronounced wooster by the locals) is basically a college city, with several dotting its layout. worcester isn't too exciting though, to be honest. it's tough to be a small city in the shadow of boston, plus, it can be shady in parts. but, the suburbs surrounding it are nice. it is within an hour and a half drive to boston, so that's nice. enjoy, i really do like boston. if you get a chance while you're there, see if you can visit providence, ri. it's close and pleasant, and brown u's campus is very nice.
also, when in worcester you have to eat at Tortilla Sam's! it has great americanized mexican food (with awesome vegan options). beware, though, as it is nowhere near the mexi-cali food that is predominate in socal. also, it is a byob joint, with a liquor shop right up the block, so pick up a six pack before heading in, if you're into that. |

| Chris - Welcome! don't give up. gpa can be important, but usc is very holistically oriented with their transfer admissions. basically, if you show upward mobility, it will really help your chances. also, and i kind of hate to put it this way, but your unique situation, if approached in your essays, can really help them understand why you struggled. they like to see folks who have overcome hurdles and who are striving for the best (USC). also, get involved in whatever you can at school and in your free time. join some clubs, be active, write for your school newspaper, volunteer, intern in your desired field. i feel that ECs don't play as big a role as some might think, but they certainly can't hurt. essays are important. if you struggle with writing strong essays, seek out help from english teachers, tutors, writing labs, friends, etc. they go a very very long way in transfer apps.
most importantly though, stay positive! if you are sure you won't get in, that will show in your essay. you've come very far with just being able to be upfront about your situation.
again, welcome to the board! |

| lastofthepirates - Thanks a lot for your swift response, what would I do without ppl like you I really needed that encouragement, and yea i'll be trying my very best to get the grades I need. I have one question though, if I want to transfer to a Eng Lit Major (I'm sick of Aero engineering) should I bother even taking Dynamics and Fluids? these are extremely challenging courses, and I reckon if I can show USC I can do well in these courses that would actually be more beneficial than taking some other courses that are much easier.
The only problem with this is that I don't know if these will be a transferable GPA or not, since dynamics and fluid mechanics are def. not an Eng Literature requirement. |

I just read the description of the acceptance package from the post I have noted above, and I want one so bad.
Has anyone received a fall 2008 rejection letter???
Do they send those out at the end?
Are the rejected the last to know?? Or is it case by case and they send them a out individually? |

| ChrisEW22-
I'm in the same boat as you. i have a 2.8 applied to Comm.
Honestly I'm split 50/50. I was an athlete at the current school I'm at and stopped playing and applied to usc. I basically wrote my letter about quitting something thats always been so important and what not.. and i'm sure usc likes athletes.
i'm hoping they'll see i was an athlete and just kept the gpa i needed.. and now that i've wanted to transfer my grades have been going up.
we'll see..if i dont get in i might transfer to ucsb to join the soccer team heh |

| lastofthepirates- Wow, it seems like you're a local there. Ya another reason BU is my second choice is because of the hockey atmosphere there and I know it's huge in Boston. The only downside I think living there is the winters, I can't even fathom to be in 0 degrees or below weather. Shoot, 40 degrees here in Cali is cold to me lol. |

| Chris, you have a lot of time to pull that GPA up to the 3.5+ Range. It wont be easy, but it is VERY VERY possible, it won't need a miracle, you just gotta be determined. On-top of that, you can explain in your essay or in the "Is there anything else we should know about you" section of the short answers, how your GPA dropped, but it would be more compelling in your Essay.
Its people like you who become quite successful in life because they have that extra "drive". So Do Not give up on your self, and just think of your current situation as a small hick-up. Above all, do not lose hope. |
