kelsmom you're right, MSU is VERY gay friendly. LBGT is one of the most powerful student groups on campus.

The Advocate Guide voted Northwestern one of the most gay-friendly in the country:
The Daily Northwestern - LGBT Magazine Ranks NU Among Most 'Gay-Friendly'

Also, we're currently petitioning for gender-neutral housing for this fall. We already have gender-neutral bathrooms and a nondiscrimination policy that includes gender identity in addition to sexual orientation (this is rare among colleges nationwide).

See the gender-neutral housing petition here:

Bard has a big homosexual population and everyone here is very accepting. I'm straight, but I have atleast two guy friends here who are gay (there are a few who haven't come out, but have shown that they are most likely gay by hitting on/hooking up with guys when they were drunk) and multiple girl friends who are lesbian/bisexual.

First you may want to petition NU to let the opposite sex stay overnight. That they don't is absolutely preposterous for such a progressive university.

That is so laughable that USC is on that list. In my (admittedly short) life experience, I have never encountered more homophobia amongst both students and locals here at USC and south central Los Angeles.

I'm probably far too late to help but WashU (go there) and Northwestern (live nearby) are both extremely gay friendly. My firsthand experience is obviously from WashU and I've never experienced such acceptance (although, it may be more difficult for women). GLBTIQ people are accepted in every facet of the community - every greek house has them (and one of my best friends is "big man on campus", business council president, and in SigEp(one of the most sought after frats)). Just in case you decided to put it off til next semester...

Wayward trojan would you care to elaborate more on your encounters with homophobia. I always thought it was a pretty progressive school. Do you get the general feeling that most of the students are homophobic or is it just small pockets of students? I would not be too surprised about the locals being homophobic but I would be surprised that the students are. I'm applying to USC and I would just like to know more.

Yale is VERY gay-friendly. Our student body tends to be liberal, open-minded and accepting!

USC students can hardly be lumped into either camp. That said, the large number of student athletes and budding Greek system makes for an often less than amiable environment. Just check what some of them have to say on juicycampus. Honestly, if you end up there, stick to your own type of people and let the plebs eat cake. Forgive the bitterness, but you would understand if you shared my experience.

Well I was planning on staying far far away from the Greek system anyway. No offense to anyone who likes that kind of stuff, but its just not my thing at all. NYU is my first choice anyway, and they're known to be really gay-friendly. Sorry to hear that you didn't have such a great experience wayward trojan. Are you transferring somewhere else?

hi, I'm an international student who is bisexual, muslim, n chinese (seems a pretty good target for bigotry, eh?)

I'm applying to honors in business in Louisiana State U (bcos i can't afford expensive out of state tuition, n it's offering much scholarship for my 2020 SAT score), U of Minnesota (better school but dun think i can afford it), and Buffalo. Does anyone know if these schools r acceptant twds my background? (esp Louisiana coz it seems conservative, buffalo seems diverse enough)

Does anyone have any suggestion of any school for me (but i cant afford more than abt 20k per yr)?
