Hello everyone,
I was accepted into USC, but for my second choice major, which was Econ, Marshall being my first. At first I didn't mind, until I was told USC wasn't exactly up to standards with other top schools in their Econ program, which baffled me considering how acclaimed the business program was.

Well anyway, this pushed me to go for Marshall once again but I was told I had to complete 1 semester at USC and take a <b>Math 218</b> course. The woman I spoke with told me its an "extremely difficult" course. I'm not great in math, but I get my work done. I was wondering if anyone who has taken this Math 218 course has any opinion on difficulty and preparation. Furthermore, any comments on the Econ department at USC would be helpful. This is my first post so spare me =)

Oh and sorry the actual title of the course she said was Probability Statistics if that sounds familiar to anyone.

I would suggest going to ratemyprofessor.com or going to the course schedule and find out which professors teach MATH 218 (instead of scrolling through every professor looking for someone who talked about the MATH 218 class) and see what students say about the class.

a typical review looks like this:

Username of reviewer

Class_Number <--- look for Math 218

This class blah blah blah blah.

and then it has all the ratings.

Okay sounds good, I am familiar with that site, I'll check it out. If anyone knows anything about studying economics at USC it would be appreciated as well If you could give me some insight-- positive, negative, anything!

what other schools did you get into? would you consider going somewhere else instead?

UCI and UCSB, both with honors, but this was an easier choice because it is more acclaimed and only 15 minutes from home..I mean I figure I shouldn't let price limit my decision and it is my education.

there's actually a thread on here somewhere that ranks top undergrad econ schools. in terms of the west coast it was like stanford, berkeley, caltech, some other school, and usc. try googling "top undergraduate econ programs"...

Yeah, I will be sure to check out more on Google, because I did happen to see similar threads that were only opinion based. Thanks for your help and by the way the other 2 universities I mentioned were both for a Bus. Econ major, so slightly different.

no problem. i know uci is opening up a business school there soon but i havent really heard much about ucsb...if I were you I would go to USC unless cost is a problem. Good luck!
