Transfer Success Stories- Transfer after 1 year with poor HS GPA

Now when I mean poor GPA I do not mean a 3.3 or even a 3.0. I mean in the range of almost failing to a 2.9

I hope to become a success story. In H.S. my GPA had been a 2.3. By the end of my first semester of college my GPA should be a 3.7+ with 16 credits. I am applying to schools such as Franklin and Marshall College, Drew University among others. I hope to get into some schools!

Anyone else here with poor H.S. GPA who transfered after just one year?

yeah it was unfair i believe on my part. I was 3.0 in hs - not too great - 27 act and 4 sport varsity athlete and applied to transfer there with a 3.89 and 34 credits - and i was denied.. had lots of legacy too.... so idk. I got into GT though which seemed odd. But oh well trying for this year again and if not UM for sure.

yes mike. my grades were very similar to yours. I had about a 2.3 GPA in high school for various reasons. I worked very hard freshman year (last year) and got around a 3.7 I believe. I went to Elizabethtown College and transferred to Northeastern University in Boston and its been an excellent decision. Just make sure you don't let up at all towards the end of the semester because you have good grades now.

I had a 2.3 in High School, 28 ACT and 3.4-3.5 (cannot remember exactly) in college, transferred to Notre Dame after two years. You have to also remember that some classes do not transfer, thus your gpa will be seen accordingly. So I might have had a higher transfer GPA, who knows. Also snwrider my guess as to why you did not get in is because somewhere one or two of your classes did not transfer, thus you could not meet the criteria of being a 1 semester Sophmore.

CCG - no all my classes did transfer - i had meet with the admin advisor @ ND prior to the start of my frosh year and went over my classes making sure they fit the requirements for FYoS and they all did. but... i was finally told at the start of this year it was b/c i got a B in a Physics class - of which i got the highest grade.... oh well i am not holding a grudge... i am applying this year again and should know by early december and if not nd. i'll be at U of M

I have a 3.3 unweighted and 4.1 weighted (cause of IB).

If I got 4.0 my freshman year at a decent college could I have a shot at transferring to an Ivy?

University of southern california transfer requirements for a psychology major

First off I'm just joined college discussion I have so many question that I need to ask because every time I call the counselor at USC for my region or email him I never get a answer so this is why I came here hoping to get a good answer from someone who transferred from an out of state community college and got in majoring in psychology. UM OH I want to become a psychiatrist but I don't know if I start those type of classes until my junior year? I just need some type of guidance and preferably someone who transferred to USC with know problem.
I'll list all of the classes I'm taking I plan to apply to USC for fall 2010. Also what GPA should I aim for. Thanks.

Are my English courses English 1180 and English 1190 which are titled Communications 1 and 2 equivalent to writ 130 and will it transfer. The courses focus on expository and argumentative writing. I also want to know if these courses below fulfill transfer requirements that you will need to transfer to USC and will they transfer. Also my major is Psychology and my second choice major is Sociology I plan to go to medical school to become a Psychiatrist.
Currently my GPA is a 4.0 and the school I attend right now is in Michigan.

PSCY 1010- Introductory Psychology
SPAN 1260- Elementary Spanish 1
PHIL 2010- Introductory to Philosophy
BIOL 1000- General Biology 1- This is an introductory lecture and laboratory course about the life processes common to all living things.
HIST 2200- History of the United States since 1877
SPAN 1270- Elementary Spanish 2
SOCY 1010- Principles of Sociology
HIST 1600- Western Civilization since 1648
ANTH 1000- Introduction to Anthropology
MATH 1460- Precalculus
SPAN 2360- Intermediate Spanish 1

The classes I didn't add are math classes that I'm sure won't transfer but everything else I'm pretty positive that they will I just want to make sure. So all my units including the math classes I didn't add, add up to 60 units total.
Is this good enough or no. I just need some help.

I dropped out of high school, and spent a couple of years doing my own thing before going to a comm college (I still didn't have a high school diploma or GED when I enrolled). After 3 semesters (plus one summer class) with a 3.72 GPA and a masochistic course load, I got accepted to a couple of schools, but am going to go to UMich-Ann Arbor in the fall. So yeah, it's definitely do-able, and the odds are that you're in a better position than I was at the start of college (I had a look at my high school transcripts during the application process; they weren't good).

QUESTION

generally speaking, if a course is NOT transferable (credits cannot be transfered), is that classes' grade calculated into the GPA used for admission?

also, I had a 2.72 in HS and got into a satellite Penn State campus.
got a 3.5 first semester and 3.84 my second semester.

where should i Look to transfer to? it seems quite of few of you above got into Notre Dame.
