CMU vs MIT

I was accepted as a transfer student into both Carnegie Mellon University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. I initially decided in my mind that I would matriculate into MIT, but after visiting both universities I have absolutely no idea which to choose. I couldn't care less about one's prestigiousness vs the others, I just want to know which do you think would be better for an aspiring medical school student? I'm currently a Biochemistry major / Math minor with a specific Pre-Medical emphasis.

I know ultimately it's my decision, of course, but some insight wouldn't hurt, particularly from those who attend any of the two universities.

:-D

If you want to go to medical school, what's going to matter the most is getting a strong background in logic and having a high GPA. I don't know if MIT or CMU has more grade inflation, but that should be a major factor if you can figure it out. MIT also has a really strong math department so they might offer more rigorous logic classes that will help out with the MCATs.

But with all that said, if your smart enough to get into MIT as a transfer, you'll have no trouble getting into medical school. Go where you feel most comfortable.

from what ive heard you should have no disadvantage choosing cmu over mit, admit rates are not astounding from mit relative to other schools ...as one might think, as even i would think.

Go to MIT. They have a stronger departments in biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering. They will also have amazing opportunities for research as an undergrad, which will take you miles ahead in med school admissions. MIT is better than CMU and also has better financial aid... they will take care of you intellectually and financially for 4 years.

Going to MIT will also mean that you will be able to clinical volunteering and/or research at the nearby hospials at Harvard (if you are lucky enough), BU, and others.
