It's going to be different at every school. Since I went to community college, Umich had a list of equivalent courses so I knew what to take. Transferring from another university your best bet is going to be to bring a copy of your transcript to an adviser and ask them what courses might transfer to get an estimate so you know if it's worth it to apply.
In my own experience, I transferred to WashU and all of my credits were excepted. With the cluster system used in ArtSci they couldn't all be used to knock of gen eds as they had at my old institution, but all of them made it through.
