UofM to NYu

I'm a freshman at U of M right now, in LS&A. I like it, but I am set on NYU (and was in high school). I was wait listed when I applied as a high school senior and I was then rejected. I plan on transferring from Michigan to Stern of NYU for Fall 2010, what am I looking at? ( in terms of GPA wanted, etc.) I really need to get into Stern, and would appreciate any input like previous transfer students stats, etc.

I don't have any idea of my grades right now, waiting for the semester to end.

My courses now:
Stats 100 (Intro to Stats Reasoning)
Soc 100 (Intro to Sociology Principles)
Math 115 (Calc 1)
Spanish 231 (Spanish level 2)

Expected courses for next semester:
Stats 350 (Introduction to Statistics and Data Analysis)
Econ 101 (Macro Economics)
Writing 124 (First Year Writing Req.)
Spanish 232 / Math 147 (Spanish level 3 or Intro to Interest Theory)

I don't have many ECs as I've been here for only 2 months...
DECA : Business / Marketing Club
Michigan Econ Society: Economics / Business Club (applied for board)
Looking to join more...

Race: Asian (Indian)
Hometown: Binghamton, NY

I heard they don't look at SATs or high school materials, but I'm not sure, I can provide more information on request.

Can someone asses my chances, give me more information, etc.?

(Also looking at UC Berkeley, but doubt I can get in)

You were waitlisted there so that is a good sign! i do not think you can be rejected off the waitlist, instead you were just not chosen.

Make sure you do well in Spanish 2, as it is the only 2nd tier course they will have a grade for. And (although it should be obvious) make sure you do well in your other courses as well.

I would not take "intro to interest theory". Try to jump into a higher level math course, or stick with Spanish 3.

just a question.

Why do you want to go to NYU? In my opinion UM is a way better school. And Ross is way better than stern, maybe not for finance, but its better overall, just like UM too.

Im not going off of USNEWS stats, but my dad went there and so i have been there a few times and taken classes there and stuff. I guess i would be impartial as I am from MI (I was born at UM hospital) and think Ann Arbor is one of the greatest college towns. I go to college in NY (columbia) and thinking of transferring because I want a college town. NY sucks for a college experience.

well thats my 2 cents

Just for what it's worth, NYU has some of unhappiest students in the country.

Hey! Another New York--> Michigan Indian guy! I was tempted to transfer when I first came here, now I'm unsure. The Math department is pretty amazing, the only places I'd go instead are MIT, or Chicago. I'm still not sure if Michigan is the right place for me though...

If you apply before junior year, then they do look at high schools stats more closely.

You have a bit of an uphill battle- Stern is one of the more difficult NYU schools to transfer in to. However, the fact you were waitlisted in high school does make a difference. I would really try to aim for 3.5+ as there are a lot of people competing to transfer and Stern has a high retention rate.

And don't believe that "unhappiest students in the country" B.S. That was a terrible survey. When you only ask 100 people out of THOUSANDS of undergraduates how they feel about a University, you're going to get weird answers. . .

Sorry, I don't have any advice in terms of transferring for you, but I was wondering if you could give some to me. I want to transfer to the U of M or SCSU from SCTC, preferably the U of M, but I'm not doing so hot in my spanish right now. How do you like the U? Do you think it's a good idea that I go to the U over St. Cloud State University? Thanks for you time and good luck.
