Transfer Chances to UVA, VTech, W&M, JMU?

I'm a freshman at College of Charleston and I'm applying to transfer to UVA, VTech, William and Mary or JMU. Let me know if/where you think i can get in! My top choice is UVA.

Honor roll 1st semester and I'm on track for 2nd semester too

College EC's:
Member of sorority
Elected to 2 leadership positions in my sorority

Political Science Club
Habitat for Humanity
Campus Bible Study
Cougar Activity Board (Creates fun things to do on weekends thats not associated with drinking)
Volunteer teaching at a local elementary school 4x a week

Other considerations:
Would get in-state for Virginia

JMU and Vtech are probably no sweat. William and Mary and Uva are not locks, but definitely have the chance. Nothing is ever a sure thing when you try to get into the upper echelon schools but you definitely should try. If you have a top choice and don't get in, don't settle for the next-best alternative just because you want to get out. Work hard next year, and try again. Anyways good luck!

I am also applying to UVA!
but i have a question about the personal essay.
on the commonapp website, the topic is to addresses your reasons for transferring and the objectives you hope to achieve.
but on the school website, the "commonapp general essay" topic is to write an essay (250 words minimum) on a topic of your choice or on one of the options listed below.

I am confused!which one should I write?

Essays, Undergraduate Admission, U.Va.

well if you look at the link you just posted, for the first part it just says undergrad admission, meaning its not specifically for transfer students. definitely write the one about the reason for transferring, thats what the school wants to know

since i don't see any space provided for that general essay on commonapp website, does that mean i have to mail that in by myself if i write that essay as well ?

thanks.

if you said you were a transfer student, there should be a space for you to upload that essay on the common app...
there's a space on mine for it. maybe you checked a box that said you werent a transfer

i am talking about the essay on a topic of your choice or on one of the options listed below ( which appears on the first part school website). do you have space for that question on commonapp?

Have you looked at the transfer common app and Uva supplement? I think it is pretty cut and dry...the only essays you have to include are 1)the generic "why do you want to transfer essay" 2)the one about how your general career interest applies to your intended field of study 3)the one you write about only if you took time off from school for an extended period 4) the one where it gives you three options to choose from. All the essays you have to write are specifically asked for in the transfer common app and the Uva supplement and all are given the appropriate means for uploading a document.

I think you're an excellent candidate for any of those. Currently, I'm almost finished applying as a transfer to all the colleges you've mentioned (save for W&M... the atmosphere there is not appealing to my tastes). I'm going to the NOVA community college right now, and even though my cum. GPA isn't spectacular (about a 3.4), I still have a good chance at the institutions i've applied to. The Guaranteed Admission Agreement between Northern Virginia community colleges and UVA of course gives me a huge advantage, since 3.4+ grants you admission into their College of Arts and Sciences (don't get confused though, it's not the same for the other colleges, like the business school). Knowing the standard here for guaranteed entry, in combination with the great EC's and GPA you're carrying, I can't see why you wouldn't be accepted.

I'm also a little confused about your residency. If you're an resident of VA, then perfect, but if you're not then your out-of-state status might be a factor against you in the admission process. This is really my only qualm, and as long as you write your essays truthfully and with some good work, you should be golden for UVA

To add to kindaslick's post about the essays: #3 in your list should only be written if you have actually taken significant time off from your study in college. Otherwise, I think you should disregard it.

I think you will get into UVA given your instate status and the fact that your high school stats are in line with other instate students already at UVA. Its good that you are applying for second year status and its not mcintire, because that will be a reach
