| Official Duke University Transfer Thread Fall 2010
Hey all, there is a spelling mistake in the other one, and no one seems to be using it. I don't know if these two statements are linked in any way
I am only applying to Duke. Hopefully we'll all get in and meet each other!
Who else is applying? Where are y'all from?

Isn't the transfer acceptance rate lower than the Marianas Trench?

If the transfer acceptance rate was lower than the Marianas Trench, than it would actually be fatal. As a result of this, the number of applications would decrease because people would fear the deadly acceptance rate.
BUT, if the number of applications decreases in this way, than the acceptance rate should mathematically climb as a result.
BUT, if the acceptance rate climbs like this, then the number of applications will also rise because people will be more willing to apply.
BUT, if the number of applications increases in this way, then the acceptance rate will fall.
BUT, if the acceptance rate falls, then so do the number of applications.
And so, the endless cycle repeats. It's a vicious, vicious predator-prey system.

I'm applying! From New York, but went transferring from a school in the UK.
Not sure my chances are very great to be honest, but we'll see!

depends on the stage of the cycle. adcom and applicant can be either. Just like lizards switching sexes during mating season.
Good luck y'all! Although I hear Durham is pretty scary.

^^^ Are you saying that males and females are like predator and prey? lol
And yeah, that's why some of my free time will be spent at Chapel Hill if I'm accepted.

I called Duke and they said this was do to a glitch in the system, something about trying to use the freshman format for us, so nothing shows up. She said to have patience and it should be updated soon, they will mail us letters to let us know things are missing.
She also said decisions weren't out till the 18th of May which is a bummer, I was sure it was the 15th. =/
How confident are you guys feeling about your chances? I feel like it's truly such a random process.

The freshman applicants got their decisions in the past two days. The Duke Chronicle published an article this week about the reformed admissions process in which less discussion would be given for more than half of the freshman applicants.
I really, really, really hope this isn't the case for transfer applicants. After all, there's only about 700 of us to review in 1.5-2 months, right?
