How "bro" is Trinity?

I've been considering applying to Trinity for a while now because I love the campus, academics, athletics, and the history of the school. The only reason why I'm hesitant is because I'm not really into Greek life at all. I do party but not excessively. I know that nearly every school that is known for partying offers "alternatives," I just don't really want to be a minority in that regard. I think a few years ago Trinity was listed in GQ as one of the "douchiest colleges", with the quote being "It's just like boarding school, except all the nerds are at Yale." Obviously it's satire but is there any truth to this at all? I'm an urm and Trinity is a reach for me (28 ACT, 3.2 GPA) which is why I'm considering ED, and it really is one of my top choices. I just don't want to end up at a school with students that aren't that academic. Can anyone offer any reassurance? Thanks.

I live in CT and saw a few news reports(in the past 9 months) that Trinity has had some pretty serious issues with racism..black students having glass bottles hurled @ them as they walk to class and told to "Go back to Africa".... there was even a big student protest against these types of racist acts... apparently this type of behavior is quite common at this school. Many students that were interviewed for the news stated that they had been subjected to this and the administrtation has turned a blind eye. It might be worth it to do a search on their local newspaper THE HARTFORD COURANT to see what kind of articles you can dig up.

Disregard NewHavenCTmoms negativity, because hailing from CT (new haven no less) does not give someone an inside look at the school. I am a freshman here and was in a similar boat, however I cannot really give you a definitive answer. Is there racism at trinity? Yes. Is it unlike any similar school? Of course not, it is just that those incidents do inebriated and quite frankly sheltered. Head to any NESCAC or Patriot League school and the same will unfortunately occur

Trinity is a great little ivy, but has its problems. I do the Greek scene out of a lack of other choices, but think this just be a freshman year sentiment. The majority of kids here are wealthy, like to party, but are still competing for the same Credit Suisse summer IBD internship. Bean boots and JCrew are rampant on campus, as to adress your 'bro' inquiry..however that is due to the regional location of New England.

I am surprised that you even mentioned the GQ joke, take a look at the other schools on the list... Duke, UVA, Brown... I think with your stats you would kill to go there, and trinity should be no less.

Apply to trinity, however be aware that Hartford is a hell hole and does not offer ANY social outlets, despite admissions attempt to portray it as such. Where else are you looking to apply?
