Tufts vs. Notre Dame

So I've narrowed it down to these two schools and after visiting them AGAIN, I still have no clue. Both gave me comparable financial aid, so money isn't really that much of an issue. I'm interested in international relations/studies and pre-med. There are things that I think I like and dislike about each school but there's only so much you can learn from 2 days at a school. I'm really feeling the pressure now that its coming down to the wire and I have NO idea what I'm going to do. HELP!

well tufts is amazingly strong in their IR program, and the med school is excellent so pre-med would be too. i'd go with tufts...unless you're super into sports or prefer the midwest, then notre dame is the way to go.

Wow! This is an interesting one because the schools are so totally dissimilar.
One thing you don't have to worry about is the general quality of the academics, which are first rate at both. (Although I agree that Tufts is superior in IR.)
But the atmospheres and "life" of the two universities are so totally different that I don't see how anyone who doesn't know you well could tell you which to pick.
Which one do you think you'd enjoy more over the next four years of your life?

Unfortunately, I can see myself at both schools rather easily. My school is so small that I've been able to do so much within the school in different areas that I otherwise wouldn't have been able to. So athletics and school spirit call to me from Notre Dame while more activities and cultural things call me to Tufts Over the past 3 days I've been back and forth between Tufts and Notre Dame but I've never VASTLY preferred one of them. It's always at most a 40-60 shift.

Do you like diversity? I would say that Tufts is way more diverse.

Are you conservative or liberal? Although most college campuses are liberal, I'd say ND would actually lean a bit right (correct me if I'm wrong). If you're liberal, perhaps you'd fit in better at Tufts?

I agree that both schools are vastly different... try to do more research, contact some students... they'd probably give you a more accurate description of their own school. Do you like a greek scene? I know frats/sororities are tiny at Tufts so if you care about that, Tufts wouldn't be for you.

Notre Dame definitely leans to the right, because they are toward the conservative end of the Catholic faith. If you have any concerns regarding academic freedom, you might want to read this article:

Tufts is great in all of them. Personally, I would never go to Notre Dame, mostly because of its lack of diversity and conservative thought.

If you're into business/finance, ND is the way to go. Mendoza continues to rise up in the undergrad biz rankings.

Actually, several people have told me that seriously of which I just looked aghast at them I'm the odd one out now that all of my friends have chosen where they'll be going next year

First of all you can't go wrong with either school.

At this point you're probably not going to be able to choose a clear winner, and you'll likely second guess yourself all summer regardless of your decision, so you might as well leave it up fate. This way at least you could blame God if things go south

My D struggled to choose between two vastly different schools as well. Tufts and UC Davis. I won't go into the various differences, but what I iwll say is that it came down to one factor- distance. 3,000 miles away versus 100 miles away. Once she admitted to herself that she was worried about going so far away, we were able to talk it over and the clear choice became Tufts.
So, because Tufts and Notre Dame are so different, and it seems to me that most people would easily lean one way or the other, I have to ask- is here some factor standing in the way of your descision that you need to confront in yourself? Something that worries you?

Thanks for the advice everyone. I actually just submitted my deposit to Tufts and this great weight has just come off my shoulders its fantastic. I can't wait to go next year. I finally understand how everyone else feels once they've made their decision
