But he got a 1450 on SAT's of of 1600.

He doesnt try at all in school.

Not sure why you bothered to make this thread, but unless there's something else you're not telling us then this kid almost certainly has no shot if he got 3 D's for final grades as a junior.

1450 is like average for Tufts. It won't make up for a bad GPA.

If his parents donate, then yeah. Otherwise. . . maybe he has some trick up his sleeve?

look, the real answer is he won't get in unless some serious money is involved, or he is a phenomenal (and i mean like yao mingin' it good) athlete who for some reason wants to play DIII

I'm also assuming from the fact that he took "maths" in "class 11" that he got his high school education in a non-American educational system, which is certainly a factor admissions would take into account

First off, I'm going to assume this isn't a "This guy I know did this thing..." situation and "your friend" isn't actually "you".

Secondly, Tufts is incredibly holistic and qualitative in their admission process. At the info session I attended, they made a point that they'll accept people with low SAT's if they show potential and are a good match for Tufts. On the other hand, they made it very clear that low grades + high SAT/ACT's = unrealized potential, which looks very bad on a College App.

If he applied Early Dec, got great recs from Teachers/Counselors (maybe onces which explained his low grades somehow), wrote great essays both on the Common App and the "Why Tufts" Supplement, and, perhaps, has some legacy or minority status (international/minority stats at Tufts are huge, so I've seen), he may have a shot. Otherwise, I wouldn't put too much faith in it.
