My first choice is UCSB mainly because of their Accounting program since I'm looking towards to become a CPA. I don't really know much about the school, but all I really heard from people are that the school is beautiful and that there is lots and lots of party. Though the funny party is that those people that tell me that, they have never been to UCSB. In honesty, I don't know how I will like it at UCSB. I've never thought of going to UCSB because of the small amount of asians there. But really, college is what you make of. There are good and bad times. I'm just doing whatever that is good for my career.

I've been at SB for three years now

Every single one of my friends in the Econ & Accounting major have found jobs before they graduated. (Big 4 & other good companies).

My older brother graduated from here and now works at Microsoft as a software engineer making nearly 100K... at 22 years old....

My roommate right now has an upcoming summer internship with Goldman Saks...

There are VERY successful and famous professors here.

The weather is amazing. The school is gorgeous. The people are great...

The people who matter, employers, are not going to care that the school is a party school... they are not idiots they know the quality of education students receive here.

I am an accounting major and SB would be my 3rd choice after USC accounting and UCLA accounting.. i wonder where did you friend find their job?? in SB? or LA? cuz i kinda want to live in LA in the future.. >_<

Totally agree. i think career opportunities after graduation is the most important thing, not people's rumor or whatever. If SB can give me great career, then i would definately go for it.

@Sharontan, I have people graduated from SB work at LA. A lot of LA Corporations including some investment firms and the big-4 come to SB to recruit. Santa Barbara isn't a corporate city like Los Angeles, however they do have a Nobel Laureate professor in Economics.

If SB compares to USC or UCLA on their accounting program, which school do you think will provide the most job opportunities in LA??? I know that major combines with economics and accounting, but since i aim to become a CPA, i would be more interested in the accounting-related jobs hahahaha. :3

Everyone I know who graduated as an econ & accounting major works in LA.

The recruiting for accounting is really strong at UCSB. Just search for the UCSB accounting association... every firm that is worth working for (in accounting) recruits at UCSB. Its a target school for all the Big 4 firms too...

But UCSB is not just good for accounting... it has an excellent physics department. And the Chemical engineering major here is one of the best in the nation.

What AllFieldsAreReq said are really terrible things to base your decision on... When your a successful senior manager at PWC or an engineer at Microsoft, no one is going to stop you in the street and say oh you went to sb... party school huh... -_-

Also people here are not stupid... you can choose to surround yourself with stupid people but that is your choice.

hahahhaha pretty funny..~~ thank you for telling me tho... i was not sure about SB before because of the "party school" thing, but now i definately feel more released since i would have one more option to choose other than just USC~~~ hopefully we will find out next monday! ah, can't wait!

Um, excuse me. I'm about to get pretty damn mad.
These are my opinions. I am entitled to have them and share them. No one has to listen to me. I thought it would be helpful to relay my experience. Obviously I am not the only one that thinks SB isn't for me. I never said it was a terrible school.

I never said the education was crap.

What I DID say was that my tires were slashed. Fact. My friend's side mirror was ripped off. Fact. I do not like it here. Fact. I am trying to transfer out of here. Fact. I do not feel this school is right for me and the atmosphere does not gel with my personality.

This is MY PERSONAL ACCOUNT. If I have to say this ONE more time then screw it.
There is MORE than one side. This is true of all schools. I was trying to provide the other side, the less pleasant side. I have not made anything up.

Seems like you have a positive experience with UCSB. Your bias is just as apparent as mine.
And I never said UCSB wasn't great for certain majors.
I PERSONALLY am not majoring in engineering, accounting, econ...
I am an anthropology major. The department here is nothing extraordinary.
Therefore the incentive to be here isn't as great for me.

If any of you are planning to major in engineering, accounting, econ, etc then go for it!! In the end I agree that it won't matter to future employers where you went to school. Get those connections. Come here for the Big 4.

This is subjective. I PERSONALLY do not agree.
It's foggy often. There always seems to be moisture in the air. My hair frizzes and it's annoying.
As I posted earlier, the beach is dirty. Seaweed.
And while some people are great, not all are. Just as I have never claimed that all people are bad and party.
People are smart here. Yes. Obviously.


I am done with people that do not understand that I was only trying to help. I'm done. I'm done.
I have my reasons for wanting to leave. They were personal but I chose to share some of them with you. I can see this was a mistake.
I wish someone would have taken the time to talk about their experiences with me.

UCSB isn't for everyone. Fact.
Will UCSB be right for you? I don't know. And now I don't care.

i am sorry if i ever got you mad.. i defintely understand your situtation right now. It is very kind of you to tell us the other side of SB and i will certianly take your advice into account when i consider schools to pick. :3 it is always good to have some pros and cons when deciding...every school are definetly not all good or all bad.. like USC, it is not just school of spoiled children, it has some pros too~ and your opinions did help me a lot, since i didnt know anything about SB before nor the environment there... so thank you for sharing

If you don't agree with my opinions then fine. But don't imply that I am being manipulative, deceitful, pessimistic. My intentions have been good. I didn't want anyone to feel the way UCSB has made me feel at times. I have talked about things that I personally see, hear, feel, experience. This is not hearsay. This is one person's account of UCSB. Take it how you want it and I encourage (and expect) people to POLITELY disagree.

Right now I am aiming for any UC school that will accept me. My stats aren't the greatest but I have hope. My dream would be UC Irvine.

I have read posts about UCI that have been less than positive. But I am not going to be like "Oh my, I disagree. Here are X amount of examples of people being happy and landing jobs"
At the end of the day, I don't think anyone says "Don't go to UCD, the education is crap". They speak from the personal, social side saying things like "I want to transfer from UCD because I feel the area is boring".

Any UC school will give you a great education. I assumed everyone knew this?

These people list all the good things about the school and that is where I take issue. Dark91 never addressed any of my other points and said why they disagreed.
People just dismiss it. They say, "Oh you're just jealous" or "Oh, that's so negative"

I have tried my best to say the good and bad about UCSB, focusing more on the bad because I feel it is not voiced enough.
I don't see how this is bad?

Mind you, I am not the only person at UCSB transferring out. Last year, 127 people from UCSB applied to UCLA. Maybe they wanted to go to a more prestigious school. Is that bad? Maybe they wanted to be closer to home. Is that bad?

We all have our reasons. And I am not mean spirited or crazy for not agreeing that UCSB is a paradise with sunny days everyday, gorgeous people, and lots of fun.

Even if these things were true (highly subjective), maybe these things do not matter as much to me as they do to you.

I think people are "attacking" (I'm using the term loosely), because you have not posted a single thing positive about your experience in SB. (I'm not going to stalk your posts and find a positive post that you posted, because I am busy with finals also >__<) Stuff about tires slashed and friend's side mirror ripped off happens everywhere tbh, so it doesn't really help your point. Having a neutral POV is pretty hard to do when you are applying to transfer out, so it's understandable how your posts would sound negative.

Though the reason of not feeling UCSB is right for me and the atmosphere does not gel with your personality, is a perfectly valid reason to transfer( That is a good criteria for anyone considering SB). If anyone is attacking you for that, then i don't understand.

And anyone who is hesitant on choosing UCSB (if you have the option of choosing it, of course) should think about what the school has to offer you. Things such as the right majors, opportunities, programs, and other stuff. Basing your decision only on the reputation of a party school is stupid. You obviously won't get the same experiences and job opportunities at every UC. (For example, if you want to do accounting, I believe Davis does not have accounting, so you are limited to UCI and UCSB)

I wouldn't say I feel attacked per se. Um, but I did mention that I did say positive things. If you don't want to search through my posts then maybe you could just take my word for it? Otherwise I do not think it's fair to say I have not.

I am also not going to stalk my posts. I have said many things and made many posts. Yes, tire slashing and vandalism occur anywhere. However, it does happen quite a bit in IV. The police that I talked to confirmed this. If anyone wants to speak up and say this happens at their school as well, please do. I personally never read about this being a problem for other UCs...maybe UCR but I'm not sure.

Anyway, this is besides the point. These examples come up over and over again because they are off the top of my head.
Some people may agree that this reflects on some of the students that go here. Even if this was done by kids that do to SBCC, they still live in IV.

My comments about reputation and vandalism have been blown up. I have talked about other things, positive things too.

My point? What point? My intention was to spread the word about my personal experience. Goal accomplished. To me, the word 'point' implies that I had an agenda or at the very least was trying to persuade people. I wasn't. So yeah

Having your tires slashed or a mirror broken have nothing to do with the school. As Shibykin said, that can happen anywhere.

If the school sucks for your major, then transferring out is a good option. But coming on here and complaining about things like your tires getting slashed and using that to bring down the school is pretty lame.

I don't know what your legitimate complaints even are. The stereotype is all I found and I addressed that.

So anyways, sorry if you felt attacked. Didn't mean to make you mad. Your entitled to your opinion and all I'm saying is the complains aren't great things to base a decision on (slashing tires can happen anywhere, bikes get stolen on every campus, who cares about a stereotype, you go to school to learn and no matter what someone says will not take that away from you, and as far as the people go, there are VERY smart students at UCSB).

So... sure I'm bias, don't listen to me. Look at all the statistics that show how happy people are at UCSB.

If the school isn't good for your major, then of course don't choose UCSB. No brainier there.
