Yeah, where has everyone gone? We should post out stats to just have a better picture what kind of competition we are facing)) Like where are all the linguistics major applicants?) Here are my stats:

CCC(CCSF) Transfer 2013 to UCSD, UCLA, UCB, UCD

Attended medical university in Eastern Europe for 2.5 years, then in 2011 fled the country due to political turmoil, got political asylum in USA. I don't really want to go back into medicine, and so started the whole process of higher education anew.

Intended Major: Linguistics(for UCSD, UCD, UCB), Computational Linguistics(for UCLA)

CC GPA: 3.78(always wondered, do PE classes, like dance, count? Got a "B" in dance; if they count that, then 3.76). Slightly more than 60 CC units

Prerequisites:none listed for my major; I'm taking Calculus, CS classes(I'm interested in computational linguistics), philosophy; study German in Goethe Institute in SF; native language - Russian

IGETC: Yep

EC: Well before I got political asylum I had to pay international tuition fees, and so had to work 40hrs/week to make it with all the bills( I live alone, my family is in Eastern Europe) - waitress, baby sitter; since I got my legal status - tutored ESL to immigrants, Calculus tutor at CCSF
I tried to join some clubs, but honestly, they are all kind of boring and a waste of time, my work was a priority.

Awards:
won a couple of languages competitions in my country(not sure UC cares though);
Dean's List(kind of lame, too

Other: first-generation student

I'm kind of worried about the fact that I used to attend medical university, I know UC'S are strict on excess units policy. I have around 60 - 70 units from medical school, but since they're all veeeery irrelevant to my intended major of study I took all necessary courses in CC.
I'm also baffled by the absence of prerequisites for my major on assist.org. I ended up concentrating on IGETC and math/cs classes( I also took Fin Acc course, but until this day have no idea why I did this I got "A" anyway, but it's really irrelevant to linguistics lol). German classes were kind of weak at my cc, and so I study German in an outside institution.

I really would love to make it to Berkeley, I started my immigrant life here in the Bay Area and leaving this place would be sad But I know the school is very competitive and my credentials are kind of mediocre, so UCSD would be great too

CCC Transfer to UCI or UCSD
All of IGETC is done
Completed TAG for UCI
Major: Film
Minor: Digital Arts
CCC gpa: 3.5
UC gpa: 3.1
I went to UCSC for my freshman year, but decided I wanted to transfer to a school in socal (for my major) so I went to a CCC for my second year.
I applied to UCSD last year and was waitlisted, but didn't get accepted from that list. I'm only applying this year to UCSD because my sister (twin) got into UCSD last year and is going there now. Other than that, I'm just hoping for UCI.

CCC Transfer to UCB, UCLA, UCI, and UCSB

Major: English
Overall GPA: 3.8
UC GPA: 3.77 (expected to be higher by the end of this semester)
Major GPA: 4.0

Submitted TAG for UCI (English)
TAP Certified for UCLA
SPMP (Starting Point Mentor Program) with UCB
IGETC completed
Only 2 prerequisites completed (English 45A and part of 45C. I know this is a huge disadvantage. My CC offers a limited number of literature courses; I've had to go to other CCs for my English prerequisites. Currently I'm trying my best to find other prereqs at different CCs to take in the Spring of 2013. I have, however, consistently taken other non-prerequisite literature courses offered at my CC.)

Honors Transfer Program
Phi Theta Kappa member
Dean's List (since Spring of 2011)
English Supplemental Instructor (paid position)
English Peer Tutor
Part-time job as a cashier for 2 years
Part-time job as a paid intern at a Dentist Office (current)
Piano for 15+ years
