It's my understanding that AP credits can only help you, not hurt you, with regard to the credit limitations. For example, I'm gonna have 113 quarter units by the end of spring quarter, but I have 56 AP credits that I am using to pass out of a lot of classes. UC's will not calculate my credit count as 169, but rather as 113 because it would go over the unit cap of 120 if they were to include AP credits. However, if you need the credits to meet the 90 credit req, then they will count in your favor. So it would be in your best interest to include all of your AP credits on your app anyway, because it can only help you.

This is at least how I understood it, but I could be wrong. Any previous intercampus transfers have insight?

MidnightGolfer, do you mind chancing me/giving me advice? As mentioned earlier in the thread, I have a GPA of 3.87 at UCSD and I'm attempting to transfer as an MCDB major at UCLA and an Applied Mathematics major at UCB. Thanks!

slapusillydawg, you're right. Here's what an admissions advisor from UC Berkeley told me as an intercampus transfer:
"The credit you received for the AP exams of 3 or higher, will be used to help you meet the 60 min. semester units, but will not be used to cause you to go over the 80 unit maximum."

AP credits will not put you over any limit. I wouldn't suggest selectively showing the AP scores you did well in because they will still see all of the scores anyways as it can show up in a number of reports/transcripts that your current UC has.

Also to whoever was wondering about the UCSC writing requirements: Your core classes should fulfill the C1 + C2 requirements. However, you still might not be exempt from having to take another writing class due to 2 possible reasons.

1. I know UCSC has changed the requirements for their GE's, so if they got rid of the upper-division writing requirement (listed as W), just ignore this. If you are trying to complete your GE's before transferring (which I HIGHLY suggest doing) then you need to take your 'W' class. This is outside of the C1 + C2 req, but it is still a writing class you should plan for.

2. Many colleges/majors have their own requirements for writing that you can't use your UCSC writing classes for. I know the department of Letters & Science at UC Davis requires students to take a writing course that not even your 'W' class at UCSC will take care of. You can petition or try to test out of the requirement, but just know that you might still need to take the class.

If anyone has any specific questions about transferring out of UCSC or even a UC, then let me know. I've gone through the process and have helped several of my friends in the past. I might take some time to respond, though.

About the UC Tag application...

Hey everyone! Quick intro: I'm an Air Force vet, used to work the flightline, then got out, went to school, had a kid (i miss sleep), and now am getting ready to apply to UCSD and SDSU for Fall '13. (I'll be sure to come back and make a proper intro once this energy drink wears off and I catch a nap.)

My question is: I didn't add the course work in my CCAF transcript (really confusing the way it is) when I submitted my TAG application, but I did leave a comment stating the reason why I didn't add it. Will it be likely that the reviewer will just toss out my application due to incompleteness?

Also, I was lucky enough to get into the UniversityLink program for UCSD, so hopefully I'll still have a shot in case my TAG application does get looked over. Thanks!

GPA: 3.6 by the end of Fall Quarter
GEs Completed: All by end of Spring
Prereqs Done: All
Major: Political Science
Transferring from: UCR
Applying to: UC Berkeley
ECs: Part time job that takes up all of my day. Tutoring and writing. Self published books, online business.
Number of units completed: 85 quarter units by the end of Fall 2012
Notes: Took 3 UC Berkeley summer session classes
Disadvantages: Took four classes pass/no pass
Advantages: Will get all A's in my classes this quarter, so there is an upward grade trend. Also, I discussed my financial situation in my app, and how living in northern california would ease my financial problems.

GPA: Expecting 3.1 by the end of Fall Quarter
GEs Completed: Almost all.
Prereqs Done: Hopefully finished by Winter (definitely by Spring)
Major: Pre-business
Transferring from: UC Riverside
Applying to: UC Irvine
ECs: Recent part time job as assistant manager at Medusa Lounge in LA. Another job at a start up company called "Forked" in LA. Internship for Gilead in the resource management department several years back. President of hometown's longboard & skate association & sponsored rider.
Number of units completed: 65 Quarter Units

Also, I'm confident in my essays. In the first essay I discussed my major and tied in my work experience. In the second I used my experience leading the longboard community and my own self-discovery, etc etc.

Can anyone give their opinion on what my outlook should be? My academics definitely are not as strong as I would've hoped, but I've been working for several years behind it all, so I'm hoping my essays and EC's can help back myself up.

Are we allowed to reuse parts of essays from our senior year UC Application? Would it be considered plaigarism even if it's our own writing?

You can reuse your essay for the 2nd prompt ("Describe the world you come from, blah blah"), but not for the 1st prompt because it's completely different. And no, I don't think it would be considered plagiarism because it's still your own writing (assuming you didn't plagiarize your senior UC app essay in the first place LOL).

GPA: Expecting 3.69-3.72 drop from 3.75, with reason.
UC Reciprocity: Nope
Prereqs Done: All, began upper division work already.
Major: Italian
Transferring from: UCSB
Applying to: UCLA, UCD
ECs: Italian Club + various volunteering & community service activities. I also listed high school EC's.

GPA: 3.6-3.7 by the end of Fall Quarter.
GEs Completed: Completed by summer.
Prereqs Done: Will be done by summer. (How can I check the prerequisites by the way?)
Major: Cell Biology
Transferring from: UCD
Applying to: UCI, UCSD, UCLA
ECs: Piano, volunteer work, tutoring.
Number of units completed: 84 by the end of fall.
Notes: Admitted to UCSD 2 years ago.
Disadvantages: However, failed 2 summer classes due to personal reasons but retaking them by the end of next year.
Advantages: Will do much better this quarter. Also moving to southern california would be better for my family.

I have a question though. If I took a summer class at a CC, it asks me to list the college but it also asks for "what degree" and "when it was completed". What should i put?
