Online Spanish

I'm having trouble finding any online spanish courses. I made some silly decisions and I'm now faced with the task of transferring a single Spanish class in order to graduate from UC Davis, and enrolling in an ordinary 12-week class in-person is not an option for me.

Are you aware of any online spanish courses that grant college credit? Why does there seem to be such a dearth of online language courses?

"Why does there seem to be such a dearth of online language courses?"

Probably because the whole premise behind learning a language is to be able to verbally communicate in that language. And oral proficiency is something that would be fairly hard to evaluate online. Probably similar to why you don't see a lot of science courses that require a lab online. Showing proficiency in a lab and in a language both require the student as well as the evaluator to be present at the same time.

How do online language classes even work? Do they just grade you on reading and writing and just assume you are practicing speaking?
