@enpz45 I feel you on the "some disqualifying factor" thing. I guess it may just be nerves and the wait that's making us overthink. I always asked questions to my TAP counselor and other people I work with to get peace of mind.

Anyone else receive responses from any of the other schools they applied to? I got accepted to SJSU already and I think that some other CSUs are going to start responding soon as well. I know UCs begin late March-early April. Berkeley is the farthest away 8-|

The only school I applied to outside of the UC system was USC.

@taylortohaas my apologies, I didn't see your post about my other thread. That was my initially planned schedule from a while ago. I decided to take trigonometry and english 1 honors during the previous summer so I could get my english 2 requirement, microeconomics, calc 1, managerial accounting, and another breadth done by fall. I took the calc placement test after taking trigonometry so I could skip precalculus. I checked with assist and verified that the macroeconomics + microeconomics combination covers their econ requirement. My CC operates under the semester system.

Hey! I wanted to get your guys' opinion on my stats/likelihood of transferring to haas.
I am currently a freshman at a community college- I'm trying to transfer in one year!
My schedule and grades so far have been -

    Summer 2016:
    Intro to Business: A
    Principles of Macroeconomics: A
    Elementary Statistics: B

    Fall 2016:
    English- Critical Thinking Shap/Mean: A
    Calc 1: A
    Principles of Microeconomics: B
    Business Marketing Professional Selling: A
    Introduction to Philosophy: A

    Spring 2017 (IP):
    Social Psychology
    Anthropology
    Political Science
    Film
    History
    Calc 2
    Introduction to Chemistry

By the end of spring semester, all pre-reqs and breadth requirements will be completed. My current official GPA is 3.73, however, after the spring semester, my GPA will be 3.86. I worked very hard on the essays- so I feel confident about those. Regarding work experience, extracurriculars, and volunteering, I have had many internships since the starting of high-school, I'm a member of PTK and ABG, I volunteer at a couple of places, and have a tutoring job as well. During high school I had health conditions which affected my education which I touched upon in the additional comments section- however because I am transferring in one year, my GPA up till the end of fall semester is not as high as all of yours! If any of you have any feedback or advice- it would be much appreciated. :)

@mapd9899 What sets you apart? Because right now, I can't tell.
  • williamyangwilliamyang Registered User Posts: 65 Junior Member
@mapd9899 - I agree with @briank82. Specifically, what internships have you pursued? Are they relevant to the field of business & leadership?

You are taking a LOT of classes spring, which will give Haas pause - esp. chemistry, a hard class. I'd dump chem. I just think you look possibly risky. (I guess it's too late to drop.)

--> Is Business Marketing Professional Selling transferable?

@briank82 @williamyang I grew up with my family owning a sandwich shop, I learned the roots of what a business is since a very young age. I started to understand economics and all aspects of business through a Mesquite Chicken Sandwich- my essays highlight how that experience I've held onto since I was 6 years old has subconsciously shaped me into a person who wants to enter the business world.
Regarding internships, when I started high school I took upon an internship at FRA Financial Group- in which I learned about financial aspects of business and directly shadowed the CEO. I had another internship at a start up called Gloopt- I was a digital marketing intern at this place and learned about using an online platform to attract customers. My last internship in high school was with RCA Records; I learned about graphic design and helped create marketing ideas for artists as well as directly communicating with clients and addressing/solving their issues.
I also participated in my high school's business club in which I consistently performed well in the field of marketing management. Over the fall semester I worked with the CEO of Iron Systems and found out a little bit more about the management aspect of business.
In addition to this, I have had an auto-immune disease which I write about in my additional statement; it gives an insight onto how I fought it to make myself a person who can learn to put it behind myself in order to achieve my goals.

@Ohm888 I have a friend who transferred to Haas who specifically told me to take chemistry, apparently it looks very impressive to them- and so far it's not too hard of a class! Also, I talk about my work load in one of my essays and how it's a lot of classes at once; however, the work load I am taking right now prepares me for a school like UC Berkeley considering that UC Berkeley's curriculum is much higher- a lot of CC students transfer to a UC and aren't able to academically perform too well because they're not used to having to do that much of work at once. Right now, I find my classes manageable; I took the harder classes in summer and fall, right now it's more busy work than it is stressful work.
Also, yes! Business Marketing Professional Selling is a UC transferrable course.

Great! I was hoping that your internships would pertain to business and they sure do. @mapd9899

Has anyone received a request or heard of someone receiving a request for an interview this year? Last year, it seemed like some students were randomly selected for it.

@enpz45 Yeah, I've been keeping my eyes peeled for the same notifications. I haven't heard of anything yet. I don't think that these interviews are requested randomly, though. On a different note, UCSB begins sending out decisions tomorrow.

There were so many answers on what it "might" have meant last year....but ya, UCSB right around the corner is nice. I TAG'd em so hopefully I find out tomorrow. Did you TAG UCSB?
  • jonathaanvjonathaanv Registered User Posts: 135 Junior Member
@enpz45 I tagged with UCSB for Econ & Accounting, hope we both get good news tomorrow!
