| Season Tickets: Come out on July 23rd. You will get instructions at CalSO on how to get them, its basically off a website, and the first 1500 get them, and you have to pay 30 bucks if you want all 6 games since two of the games are "big games." (Doesnt include stanford).
CalSO was fun in my opinion. They couldn't do as much for transfers in comparison to the freshman two day event because of the diversity of incoming transfer students. I saw several people that were 50+, so its not like we could go chant and cheer like frosh. Personally I am just 19, so I was sort of dissapointed in that aspect, but I am sure it can be made up through the course of the year.
The main thing I would stress for all those going is to prepare your intended classes well. During the counseling time, you are not near a computer so you cannot look online for classes or current enrollments. SO if you go prepared, you will be better off because the counselor can just make sure the classes are okay. You get about 30 minutes of computer time with tele-bears in the evening to sign up, so if you have the classes set you can be done in a flash.
They feed you pretty well. Assuming you have the dining commons food, I was impressed in comparison to other places I have eaten (colleges that is).
You get put into groups by major, then by last name, so you do get to meet some people and take a few numbers down if you are game.
They have a few speeches and you get to kill sometime in the afternoon to do whatever you would like to do , such as get your CAL ID card, or go to financial aid if you have some issues to clear up.
The school store closes a little early, like before 630, so if you want to do some shopping do it during the free time you have in the afternoon. The line is sorta long though because everyone else figures that out. You get 20% off coupon in your giant packet of materials.
I was sort of overwhelmed by the information they threw at us. There is a ton of paper and speeches which at first doesnt seem like much but really gets taxing at the end of the day. Maybe it was the early 730 start.
They could improve the efforts, but all in all, I liked it because I got to experience Cal with people like me. Also, that whole thing where you are like "I am going to Cal....WOW" kicks in. I got really excited as the day progressed. |
