Motul, i guess you can try contacting keith schoon, the director of the center for educational partnerships.

from the pdfs on the site, which names student participants and their cc's, the six of seven cc's in los angeles are el camino, cerritos, east los angeles, mt. san antonio, pasadena city and west los angeles.. i've leave someone else to compile a list of northern cali cc's...

Thedude, if i'm attending a cc that i beielve has the program (see list) but i only intend on finishing a few classes there, can i get into the program assuming i qualify? I particapted in ucla summer intensive transfer experience (site), which serves similair disadvantaged students, so i beleive that i do qualify. Who can i contact in so. cali? How long ago did you join the program?

thedude, do you know Melissa Pon or Aarti Mehta (apparently, the two so. cal tap coordinators)? should i just contact them telling them my situation? any advice would be appreciated..

I asked my counselor about Cal's TAG but they said it is too late for me to join.... they are looking for 09fall applicants...

Yea it is probably to late to join this year. I do know Melisa she is super nice and very helpful she is the one who took the So Cal students to Berkeley for the all paid expense trip. However Melisa is no longer the So Cal TAP rep the new rep left me a message on my phone but I don't remember her name. If you are interested the best contact would be Keith Schoon who is very very helpful.

yeah i kind of figured it was too late.. thedude, did you see my link to the cerritos page? it says that courses in their honors program will be considered when application are evaluated, which sounds too similar to ucla's tap program. Are you also in the honors program at you're cc, and is that a requirement of the cal tap program? If it is, then it may be like ucla's tap program afterall, and explain the acceptance rates of tap participants (35 of 37 for fall 07)

Yea I have seen that link from Cerritos. I think what they mean by the Honors classes is that it is now a factor in the general admission process not really for the TAP program. I am in the honors program at my CC and it definitely helps to be in the honors program when being considered for acceptance in the TAP program but I met a couple people from various SoCal CC's on the trip up to CAL that were not in the honors program at their school. To get into the TAP program at Berkeley is quite a bit more difficult than the UCLA TAP program. Out of everyone I met in the program i did not meet anyone with a GPA below 3.65 as compared to people having a 3.2 GPA and still be eligible for the UCLA TAP program. Also for the CAL TAP most people have demonstrated leadership and school involvement not to mention a person has to be at a low to medium income student/first generation college student/underrepresented student which is not a requirement for UCLA TAP. I am sure that the TAP helps you get into CAL but most people in the program have a good chance at being accepted anyways.

Good Luck to all you UC applicants! I just transferred to Cal from a CCC.

I want to give you guys a bit of advice that may save you a lot of misery and anxiety next year. When you plan out your very last semester at CC, I mean the spring '08 semester, make sure to take at least one class you know you can get an A in. Because if you're planning to transfer to Cal or UCLA you'll have to maintain a high GPA during that last semester or your admission may get rescinded.

Don't be dumb like me and take 3 hard ass classes and have to constantly worry if you can keep your GPA high enough. Give yourself some breathing room!

CH3CH2OH, do you think it would be a big deal if I only take 2 classes this fall (I'm applying to Cal in November).

I would take more, but I just dont need to. I'm going to do concurrent enrollment, which will give me three classes, but if I end up needing to drop that, I will end up with 2.

Then I'll be taking sociology (easy), geology and a lab, and politics in the spring.

Will the UCs think I'm lazy or something? Cause I'm not working.

I just got an email for Phi Theta Kappa from my cc saying that I qualify and they invited me to join. Are there a lot of benefits for joining?

CH3CH2OH is absolutely right...I did the same thing and took almost 20 units/5 classes, 3 of which were difficult. I was so worried that I was not going to maintain my GPA before I transferred that I got sick. Try to really boost your GPA for this fall as well, this semester is extremely important for admissions decisions.

CH3CH2OH....how do you like your classes so far? Tougher or easier than expected? I love most of my classes.

cheba63...definately join, then you can put it on your application under honors, plus they offer allot of opportunities for you to build your EC's before applying to the UC

The readings are much more in depth...but I was really surpised to find allot of similarities to a CCC. In my CCC I had some fantastic professors that really got us ready for the UC, and then I had some lousy ones..it's really not much different here when it comes to that. I was so nervous my first day, I kept hearing that it was really competitive in class and that the professors don't get to know you because of the amount of students in the lectures. Granted, some of my classes have 250+ students but I have a big mouth so I really speak up and I email my professors when I have questions, now some know me already by my first name.

I found out a couple of days ago that Berkeley is ranked #1 in the country for its Sociology research program...I was under the impression that it was Cornell...needless to say I am learning allot.

I also really like UCD's Sociology program, so if any of you are thinking about Davis it's a great choice.
