I don't have any EC, does that really hurt my chance of UCLA? I have a part time job as a real estate appraiser(state licensed), does that help? Does donation count as EC? Only two months before the deadline of application. Anyone have good advices on EC.

I dropped all my classes for a whole semester due to family emergency. all are major courses and got Ws later. I had retaken these courses and got As. Is that okay?

My goal is UCLA, Econ major. Current GPA is about 3.92. But the major is highly selective. No EC and a whole semester w/ Ws. I'm so so so worry!

I think you have a great shot. ECs do not matter at all, so dont worry about it. If your major courses are all completed with As, i think ucla will accept you. Just make sure to have ALL of your major prereqs completed, explain in your essay what happened, and finish the IGETC.

EC's do matter although the most important aspects of transfer admissions is your GPA and major preq's. Because the UC' know that many students from community colleges are not your typical student and many have to work to support themselves UC's understand that people can not be involved with school and other EC's. It really will not hurt you that you do not have any EC's because you work but it does help your admissions chances if you do get involved with EC's.

I dont know why many people think that ECs are important. Look at things realistically people. College students work! they dont have time for activies. Hw, work, chores, etc all take the majority of people's time--and colleges know this; they know that you will not be preoccupied with sports, or any other events, because college is all about the real world.

mojojojo is tripping. you can work, go to school and still be active in the things you love.

college students not being preoccupied with sports? come on, college athletes aren't hard to find.

iono.. some people actually have a life outside of college. i myself work about 30-40 hours a week and in no way have time for ec's. I prefer to socialize and hang out with my buddies, but still study of course.

In place of Ec's do you have any interesting hobbies you can talk about?

Not everything has to be non-profit in order for you to learn from it.

For example I learned a lot about the adult world / business / how people work in the last two years from being a small scale car parts business (junkyard lol)!

Iono, just think of something you did that changed you --not necessarily life changing--maybe just something that opened your eyes to a greater depth of meaning in life. Or maybe something that made you think of yourself.

Question: what if you don't have any ECs in addition to not working full time? Will colleges know? Or will they just assume that I work full time because of the lack of ECs?

well you'll have to specifically indicate how many hours per week you've worked in the application so if you put less than 40hrs/week the school will know that it was a part-time.
