Just some questions..

I have started a little work on my UC application, and have some questions regarding what to put as my major. This might get a little long, but I'd appreciate the help!

For Berkeley, I noticed there is no choice for alternate major. I was planning on putting Chemical Biology with Chemistry B.A. as an alternate. However, since there is no alt, I do not know which to pick. I feel like I have a much better chance being accepted for Chem B.A., let me explain why.
My first semester at CC I was very busy, traveling etc, only took one class. Because of this, I am going to be unable to complete prereqs in time for Fall 08 admission for most of the science majors. Chem B.A. only requires 1 year of chem and 1 year of math, which I will have by the end of this year.

The chemical biology major requires the math and chem plus some English and physics, and 2 additional courses towards the major. (Another question, what counts as 2 additional courses?) I will have these prereqs done by the end of this year as well.. I am hoping.. depending on what the 2 additional courses have to be. (I should be able to fit a semester of Bio in this spring if that is one of them..)

So, for Berkeley, should I put Chem B.A. or Chemical Biology? If I put the former, and get accepted, will it be possible to change to Chemical Bio?

I'm also applying to UCSB, right now I have pharmacology and Chem B.A. as an alt. If I interpreted the page on assist.org correctly, required prereqs are a year of chem plus a year of Bio OR math OR o-chem OR physics. Again I will have chem+math done by the end of this year. However, there is a note that says beginning next year 1 year of bio WILL be required.. making it seem unlikely that Chem+Math will cut it, I have yet to take bio...

So should I keep pharm as my first and chem b.a. as alt? Should I switch them? Is the alt major looked at just as seriously as the primary(What I'm saying is if they see me applying for pharm and decide not to accept me, will the alt be definitely considered as well?)

Anyway.. I think thats about it, I'm also applying to UCD Chem B.A., Philosophy alt most likely...
Thanks for any help in advance! And if anyone has any suggestions regarding changing majors, what to apply as, maybe how to deal with my lack of prereqs I'd love to hear it.
Thanks again.

Now it really depends, do you just want to make it to the university of your choices or more of the sake of what you really want to major in.

If just for the university choices then I say change it to Chemistry B.A instead since there are lesser prerequsite compare to the major you really want.

I think additonal courses, is any course that they listed for you in the catalog, you probably should take another look to double check.

For other suggestions, since you pretty behind by a year, I think the best is just to stay at you current college for another year and they to fulfill the prereq of yout #1 major and try applying for next year. There's no need to rush. After all, you can apply this year as well and see what happen. If not, you can always try again next year.

Thanks, I really would like to get into the college, but I am applying to others besides Berkeley... Also, I really would rather not spend more time at cc, especially because if I did I would be taking like 6 units a semester. Any other suggestions?
