SDSU to UCSD...

I decided to go to SDSU instead of UCI. I'm currently a freshman at SDSU majoring in Chemistry. I wanted to major in Chemical Engineering (a major in which SDSU does not offer). I got into the school of engineering at UCI, however I decided not to go there because I wanted to do AFROTC, and to so and attend UCI would mean that I would have had to commute to UCLA ~ 3 times a week and that's just too far.

So, I thought that I could go to SDSU, do ROTC, and transfer to UCSD as a sophmore transfer to major in Chemical Engineering... wrong. I just found out that UCSD is only open to freshman and junior applicants. This is depressing since I really wanted to include my high school stats since they were pretty good in my opinion. I missed UCSD by 200 points mainly due to a very poor essay. I wish I found College Confidential back then! Oh, and don't ask why I didn't just go straight to a CC. That's what I wanted to do, but it's a long and complicated story...

Anyway, so that means another extra year at a school that does not have a Chemical Engineering major. I'd like some advice on whether I should attend community college. Should I finish this school year at SDSU and go to community college next year, then transfer to UCSD? Should I finish this semester at SDSU and go to community college next semester (is that possible?) or should I just stick to SDSU until the end of sophomore year? I went through about 17 pages in this forum and got an understanding that the chances of transferring from a CC to a UC are much more higher than a CSU to UC. I'm afraid that if I stay at SDSU and get rejected from UCSD, then I'm pretty much doomed to graduate from SDSU with a Chemistry degree.

Please help. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!

Just go ahead and finish the year at SDSU so long as money is not an issue. Next year attend a cc, and transfer in the fall of 09. Just be sure you can attain the necessary units to be considered a CC transfer as opposed to a Cal State transfer.

I went to SDSU my first year, and attended De Anza/Foothill last year. I just got accepted to UCI as a winter transfer, and am waiting on UCLA. Just so you know, UCSD does have transfer agreements with CC's to help people transfer in more easily. The only thing is they have a lot of requirements that have to be full filled to satisfy the agreement contract thing...O yea, I am an engineer as well.

Just make sure you can get those 30 semester/45 quarter units at a cc prior to transferring. Check those numbers just to be sure.

Thank you oxypunk151 for the response. Going to SDSU next semester would be nice for me since I live off campus sort of near the school, so having to deal with the freeway to go to CC would be a nuisance. My leasing contract would end next year so I can move closer to a CC.

I'm pretty sure I'll take enough units since I have a five year max limit set from the AF to earn my degree. I planned out all the courses I needed to take at SDSU for Chemistry and it was very heavy since I tried squishing it into four years. Definitely no time to waste around with classes!

Do you have any more info on the transfer agreements? What are the requirements that they set? Are they basic stuff?

astro log on to UCSD's website. just go to the transfer page and they will have information about transfer agreements. anywho, you might want to consider heading to a CC asap so you can take honors classes their. CC transfers who are honors certified go to the top of the pile when it comes to applicants.
