looking for guidance

hey guys, i'm a student at Santa Barbara City College and I'm planning on transfering on fall 09. It's my 3rd year here and I had a rough start. I did horrible on non-transferable courses but on all of my transferable classes I have all A's and two B's. My gpa is a 3.34 but my gpa with only the transferable classes is a 3.65. I don't know what schools I should go for. I was thinking UCSB but my psych prof. and one of the councelors are pushing me to shoot for UCLA. What do you guys think? Any comments welcomed.
Thanks,
Capuchin

UC's base admissions on the UC GPA. From what I hear, they don't pay much attention, if any, to the non transferable classes. You definitely have a good shot at UCLA. The link below shows the profiles for admitted students at UCLA.

Ok I guess I was wrong. UCLA takes takes overall GPA into consideration for psychology. You still might have a shot though.

I did some research and was looking at UCLA's website and for psychology the average gpa was 3.6something. You guys think I would be able to raise my overall gpa to a 3.6 with 29 units? Since the major prep's are very different for most schools should I focus on other schools?

capuchin, UCLA is a crap shoot and if you have the positive grade trend or/and with TAP you have a chance to make it into UCLA.

comehere1234, i'm not shure what you mean by crap shoot but I have good grades in all of the classes that transfer to UC's and I'm in the TAP program.

Volunteer and internships does count but what really counts is your grades and if you are in TAP then I think you a match just explain in the essay why you did you do bad in those classes

Stop worrying about whether you'll get in...and start working on getting in (strong personal statment, etc).

Good luck!

I'm just really stressed out because I'm putting a lot of my marbles into this basket (ucla's major prep is a bit different than UCSB's so if I don't make it to UCLA I will still need two more classes to fulfill UCSB's major prep) but your right Edward, I should worry more about working on getting in. Thanks for everything guys!
