alright so i spoke to the rep, who is a peer mentor, and the answer he gave was clear. winter grades, for ucla at least, are treated lke spring semester grades so they are not considered in the gpa when apps are evaluated.. he didn't know the answer right away though and he had to call someone in admissions. apparently, anyone can call the ucla admissions phone number, which you can look up, and ask similar questions.. for example, i also found out today that an applicant can try to change their alternate major by writing that request in the additional comments of the fall grades update, though such requests are generally not granted if the proposed major is impacted.. have a good night...

For fall 2009 admission all requirements need to be completed by the end of spring 2009 or prior; yes requirements can be competed in the winter 2009 term. Most likely the grades will not be used in calculating the GPA used when evaluating the application; even if you have the winter grades in time to file the Application update.
UCD highly encourages students to file the application update by January 31 and will calculate the evaluation GPA from all courses completed Fall and prior (Winter Grades will not be included).

I agree with UCD Admissions. That also applies to other UCs as well.
