Hey,

I was wondering if anyone can help me out with this. I was reading through the 'transfer application' instructions for calculating overall GPA, and came across this:

"Add the number of semester or quarter units for all college/university
coursework in which you earned grades of A, B, C, D or F. Do
not include in the total any courses in which you earned a W (for
Withdrawal) or I (for Incomplete), courses you took Pass/Not Pass or
Credit/No Credit or courses you are currently taking or plan to take.
If you took any course more than once, you must include all grades
earned — both the original and repeated grades — in your GPA calculation. (If you have earned both semester and quarter units, convert all
units to one system. Divide quarter units by 1.5 to convert to semester
units; multiply semester units by 1.5 to convert to quarter units.)
Calculate the number of grade points you have earned. Grade points
are assigned as follows: A=4 points per unit, B=3 points per unit,
C=2 points per unit, D=1 point per unit and F=0 points per unit.
Divide the total number of grade points you have earned by the total
number of units you have completed and carry to two decimal places."

So, I took a sociology class and got a C the first time, then retook it and got an A. Is this saying to take the grade points from the C AND the A and divide them by 3 units?, because at least at my college they dont tack on an extra 3 units if you retake a class after passing it the first time.

First I'm going to assume you are filing the paper application (I thought the online application calculated this automatically). The GPA you list for question 54 of the paper application should include all courses and as the instructions state, include repeated grades. When your application is reviewed by the evaluation staff they will appropriately calculate the GPA needed for admissions review.

Out of curiousity, since I did retake that course and get an A, will UC's not count that because I got a C the first time I took the course? I'm not sure if its UC specific, but Davis is one of the universities I want to apply to.

Please disregard my last question. I found a student FAQ on UC pathways that explains this; "Repetition of a course with an original grade of C or higher will not be used in calculating GPA, the original grade will be used."
