berkeley hopeful

so i already got accepted to uc davis, ucsd, and ucla as a freshman but my mom unfortunately has breast cancer. I can't leave socal because that would be messed up and family comes first. If im going to stay here im thinking of going to a community college and then transferring because i can transfer to berkeley (?). and i can save a lot of $$. Do you guys know if they offer like a guaranteed admission or something like that?

um, let me get this straight. So you cant leave so cal, because "that would be messed up," but you are willing to go to berkeley if they accept you later? lol Also, UCLA is in so cal, so you wont be leaving that far.

I don't believe that you will get any priority considering that the UC transfer admissions process does not review your high school record.

If money is the issue, then yes community college is the cheaper way to go.

However, if that is not the main reason, then UCLA is in southern california and only 1.5-2 hours away from San Diego.

Berkeley does not have a guaranteed admissions program anymore.

People apply to schools they don't want to go to as safeties. One of my friends got rejected from UCLA this year as a freshman applicant with a 2350 and a 4.15. Another got rejected from UCLA despite getting into Dartmouth. Considering the presumable competitive strength of applicants this year, it seems like it was a very smart idea to apply to safety schools.

Yeah, it seems like staying with your family and saving some money would be a wise decision. Since you obviously did well in HS to get into those schools, if you keep up the hard work you should have no problem getting back into UCSD and UCD, as well as a good chance for UCLA and UCB if you work really hard.

yeah but the point of a safety school is that you go to that school if you dont get in other schools.

which in this case he is not

I am still confused; why would you want to go to berk but somehow want to stay close to home? Isnt going to berk defeating the purpose? Just go to ucsd or something.
