Is a "C" in a pre-req bad?

I wan to transfer to Berkeley major Psych and am currently taking my science w/ lab requirement. I'm really struggling (party because they switched out the professor at the last minute and the new prof doesn't really prepare us well). At this point I may get a C in the class. I have A's in all my other classes and feel pretty confident that I can continue to make A's. Would this really kill my chances? At this point I would drop the class and get W on my transcript, but I've already done a lot of work for the class... Looking forward to your input!

Yes it's very bad ESPECIALLY for Berkeley. I would drop immediately. Furthermore, you'll now have a somewhat rough background on the subject matter enabling you to understand the material better next time around.

Some schools only require that you maintain atleast a "C" in transferable coursework, and a 2.7 overall for your last term.

And given the fact that psychology is one of the most competitive majors in the L&S I would advise you strongly to take it perhaps during the summer so you can focus solely on that one course. Just my 2.

There really is no question in my book I would definitely drop the class if you are going to get a C in it.

If a UC require you to maintain a B or higher, under provisional admittance, for that class, yeah, I would say it's bad.

UC's generally look at GPA's and grade trend. A "C" in a pre-req class is pretty bad if you're competing with other students that have done better.
This is only an opinion. Don't hold me to it.

Thanks for the replies, guy. Two follow up questions:

1.) Do you think it will inhibit my chances at Davis and Santa Cruz for the same major (if I have all or almost all a's besides that).

AND:

2.) Do you think that a W would be BETTER on my transcript?

Thanks!

as long as you do not have too many Ws... one "w" is definitely way better than a "c"

For the UC system undergraduate admissions Ws are really not that bad. As long as you don't go have an excessive amount of Ws it will not hurt your chances.

usdenick,
Are you attempting to transfer this year? That will make things allot different because Berkeley is very strict about allowing the summer prior to transfer to fulfill any IGETC required classes if it is an IGETC class. UCD is allot less strict about that.

Just drop it and take the class over again. I don't think that they care about Ws rather than the minimum gpa prior to transfer, which i believe is an 3.0.

What do you guys think of getting two of my pre-requisites B+ and B while the rest of them are A- and A?

Am I doomed as I am reading on this thread? These courses are mathematics.
