Are my chances at UCLA over at this point?

I'm a 3.2 phil major, extra curriculars: taught English in a rural school in Bangladesh, editor of college paper, a lot clubs, blah blah blah. But this quarter, I took 5 classes. 4 of them were humanities liberal science types of classes and I got A's in all of them. The other class was a math class to finish my requirement. It was pre cal and I check now and I have a D. After the first midterm in the class I got a 9/20 and I was in the top 1/3 of the class. I guess I made a mistake in thinking that the score would be curved. I emailed the teacher..but I'm guessing I can say bye to UCLA?

well, the fact that you have a 3.2 for a phil major isn't... super. I'm a phil major too and given that phil IS not an impacted major, they still want a GPA above 3.3-3.4 (I'm just repeating what UCLA rep's told me about my situation).

As far as EC's go, you're pretty much like me. I know that UCB likes that, but the UCLA rep tells me that it isn't really an admissions mover. Can you re-take your math class? You said that you're in a quarter system, so can you re-take it this quarter?

If you factor the "D" into your GPA... your GPA will drop, significantly.

I really wish you all the best, but if your situation is as you say it is, I would say that your chances are greatly decreased (I hate to say stuff like this, really). Good luck, I hope it all sorts itself out. =)

I can retake the math class. But, will a spring class make any difference in the admissions process? Man, I should have taken the math class pass no pass

worst case scenario: retake the class in the spring, get an A, and use that as a basis for an appeal.

You can't withdraw? It'd be better than getting the D.

Yeah, Fall 2008 is what I applied for. I'm hoping to talk to the professor when spring quarter starts if we can work something out about the grade.

Well as long as you keep a 3.0 gpa a D should not even matter right? Didn't you already turn in your final grades?

if you keep that D you have no chance of getting into ucla.
You wouldn't have even finished your math requirement

Have you completed your math requirement beside the fact you got a D in?

what ally says is true, but if you have updated your D for them to see before the update deadlines (jan 15 ucla, feb 15 uci ucsd berkeley) they will reject you with the D right then and there.
