CalGrant Notification?

Just wondering who all is waiting on CalGrant notification. Anybody know the scoop? Likely dates? I guess new competitive grants are getting canned, but apparently there's a CCC transfer entitlement grant that should be available.

I'm waiting. That's a huge bummer than competive grants are being discontinued, since it is really the only one that I qualify for, I think (I am non-traditional ie "old" and did not graduate from a Cal high school). I've never heard of the transfer entitlement grant - what are the qualifications?

Ugh, just one more thing that might push me to the University of Utah where I can at least live with my parents for free!

Hmm...looks like I might be disqualified as well. I didn't graduate from a California High School.

Transfer CalGrant:

High school students who graduated July 1, 2000 or after, and go to a California Community College may receive a Cal Grant A award to attend a four-year college. You’re guaranteed an award if you have at least a 2.4 community college GPA, meet the admissions requirements for the qualifying four-year college, meet the Cal Grant eligibility and financial requirements, apply by March 2 of the award year and are under age 24 as of December 31 of the award year. Students who received a Cal Grant within a year of graduating from high school aren’t eligible. To learn more, contact your school’s transfer center or financial aid office.

General CalGrant eligibility:

To be eligible for a Cal Grant you must:

* Submit the FAFSA and your verified Cal Grant GPA by the deadline
* Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen (your parents don’t need to be citizens or eligible noncitizens)
* Be a California resident when you graduated from high school
* Have a Social Security number
* Attend a qualifying California college
* Not have a bachelor’s or professional degree (except for Cal Grant A and B extended awards for a teaching credential program)
* Have financial need based on your college costs
* Have family income and assets below the established ceilings
* Meet any minimum GPA requirements
* Be in a program leading to an undergraduate degree or certificate
* Be enrolled at least half time
* Have registered with U.S. Selective Service (most males)
* Not owe a refund on a state or federal grant, or be in default on a student loan

Just as a note, I don't find that requirement for graduating from a California high school on all documentation... *shrugs*

I may not have graduated from a California high school, but I've been paying California state taxes for 9+ years, so I feel this is some kind of discrimination. ;-) Not only that, but I've paid my entire way through CCC.

I think early April to the end of April is when we are supposed to be "notified" and if we havn't been notified by the end of April you may contact CalGrants.

Google "cal grants webgrants" and you can check the status of your cal grant.

Mine reflects "application in process"

HELP,

it says my GPA verification form hasn't been recieved yet, but I sent it in around the middle of February.

that's kind of strange because when i checked it says GPA verficiaton has been received.. i also did it around mid-feb.

I sent mine on the very last day and they only checked it off today. I emailed them about it a couple weeks ago and someone replied back:

Thank you for contacting the California Student Aid Commission (Commission).

As long as you submitted the GPA verification form on or before the March 3rd deadline and if you have proof of postage then you should not be worried. I do know that we are behind a couple of weeks on uploading the GPA's, so this could be the reason as well. Please feel free to call us here at the Commission to check your status.

I was "not received" until today and that email is from mid march. I'd give them a few more days and then call/email.
