Double Majoring: Sociology+Bizecon

Hi.. I'm thinking about possibly double majoring in economics... I just want to know if it's even possible given my current situation...

Due to unavoidable circumstances, it is highly doubtful that I will finish within 2 years, meaning that I have to be at or under the 216 unit cap. I am calculating that I will be over this unit cap at 224.5 units...
Are my calculations correct? Are there any factors I'm not taking into account?

Is there any way I can bring my unit count down? I've noticed that Sociology requires 4 allied field division courses one of categories being economics... Can any of these courses be "double counted"?

I am transferring with 100.5 quarter units from my cc.

You're help would be very much appreciated... thank you

Below I've listed all the courses (using 2007 data) that I must fulfill in order to earn my degree in both majors.

Business Economics:
unfulfilled Pre-Major requirements: 1) Econ 11, 2) Econ 41, 3) Econ 101
Major
Required: Economics 102, 103, and at least two courses from 106 series; three other upper division courses in economics in at least two different fields (Economics 100, 110, and 120 may not be included as electives); four upper division courses from Management 108, 120A, 120B, 122, 123, 124, 126, 127A, 127B, 130A, 130B, 140. Transfer credit for any of the major courses is subject to department approval. Consult an undergraduate counselor before enrolling in any courses for the major.

Sociology:
Unfulfilled Pre req requirements: 1) SOCIOL 20
Major
Required: Sixteen upper division courses including
1. two theory courses, Sociology 101, 102
2. one methods course from Sociology 113 or Statistics 112

(b) institutions and social processes - courses 116, 158, 173, M174
(c) power and inequality - courses 156, 157, M162, 182
4. any five upper division sociology elective courses
5. four upper division allied field courses (16 units) in other departments are required (the allied fields are anthropology, communication studies, economics, geography, history, political science, and psychology)
6. one writing course from English Composition 100W, 110, 129A through 129D, 131A through 131D

What's bump mean?

I don't think taking a class for Sociology major can be double counted towards your Econ major. I'm guessing this is for UCLA? So if it'll take you 2 years to complete your Sociology major, and 2 years to complete econ, it'll take a total of 4 years, i believe. As far as units go, i have no idea how that works, seems like you know more than me. All i know is for UCSD, i need 14 major courses and 2 unrelated courses to graduate.

Ok i will answers this.

2 of your upper division courses can OVERLAP - ONLY TWO. They will be counted for both Sociology and Biz Econ.

You have to make it under 216 - sort of.

Basically UCLA wants transfer out in two years- but if during those two years you want to take 500 units- go for it- with their prior approval. So you have six quarters + 2 summers to complete your double major, they WILL APPROVE for you to go over your unit max as long as you see a councelor early, explain why you have to do it, and get approval first. They will NOT approve for you to go over your units and to stay longer- they dont like that.

Also, i do not know what community college you go to , but SMC which is in Los Angeles offers the lower division Sociology 20- You can take it at SMC either during summer or at the same time as going to UCLA. UCLA will not give you UNIT credit past 105 units, so if you do it concurrently or in the summer after having attended UCLA you will meet the requirement but UCLA will not give you the 4 units for it. For concurrent enrollement you do have to ask them for prior approval- but if you dont want the Units for it they usually have no problem with it. This way you can remove another 4 units from that max.

This is a complete waste of time, you're not going to be able to do anything except the requirements if you do a double major.

That is a valid point by logos. Are you willing to essentially give up any opportunities to take random classes for fun?

Dont most people take random fun classes at community college? Also sociology with their allied field courses does allow for a lot of leeway in regards to random classes.

I am a double major.
