Stats:

Gender: Male
Age: 24 years old
Current College: CSU
GPA: 3.96 (at time of update)
Major: Bio, Pre-Med
Applied To: UCLA (Regents invite), UCB
Accepted To: Nowhere
EC's: I didn't list any on my app., but I currently volunteer at RotaCare Bay Area (free health care). Previously, I had volunteered at homeless facilities and senior citizen communities. I am also a father of 4 year-old girl and I own a small business.
Essay: Could have been better.

I called Berkeley's FAO office and the rep told me that the 2006 income tax request was wrong, they want the 2007 returns. She also said that it was a good sign of acceptance, but not official.

EKTaylor-

I had the same thoughts regarding the arrival of mail. I probably live closest to UCB (about 10-15 miles), so it seems plausible that others just haven't received it yet.

No, I didn't receive the second CalRentals e-mail and I made my request 1 day after you.

Well you definitely have the stats to get in. I'm assuming this means that you got in. Why else would they bother to get your financial records?

Yeah but the strange thing is, they don't ask for that paperwork until they are ready to put your financial aid package together. That's why I think it's a really good sign.

Pooperscooper --great name!-- my theory is that you're one of the 15% of verifications they run on accepted students. I'm getting this from the link I just posted.

pooperscooper: When you submitted your fafsa did it state that you have been chosen for verification?

they told me last year that I was selected for verification because they always do verification on independent students, f/a knows exactly who has been accepted.... you are so in there...I can feel it!

Hmm, I'm an independent student so I guess let the compulsive mailbox checking begin!

Kal7-

I think you're right. The fact that it says "entering students" makes me smile. = ) =) = )

fijeeboi -
No, there wasn't any mention of verification until today and I filed my FAFSA on 1/21/08.

Yeah, unlike previous theories there's a lack of ambiguity there on the wording that's very very encouraging.

Good luck but I don't think you'll need it?

Omg Omg

My husband just got the same letter in the mail (he's a UCB hopeful this year), he just called me in the middle of class to tell me. He is obviously an independent student. I'm so excited!

Yes, since I am already a student we live in Berkeley's family student housing.
I'll ask my husband to post his stats later today since I don't know his exact GPA.
I think it's 3.7
major: sociology
essay: fantastic
EC: tons of volunteer work, long work history, first gen student, interned at UCD....etc. very disadvantaged background.
transferring from Berkeley City College
