chickadee: You have a solid shot. GPA is a bit on the low side for social sciences. Hopefully they take your work and family situation into consideration. I applied as a history major so we are applying in the same academic division. Someone from UCB said that the admit rate is going to be 20% this year for social sciences.

Yea I guess it's really hard to get into social sciences. Humanities is close to 50% admit, sucks how it works like that.

That is so far from the truth; Torrance, you really should put more thought into what you're saying.

That's not right. I suppose UCB's history department takes an ss approach to history then?

Not sure what they do, but the admit rate sucks. I was looking up data and the last 3 years or so it's been around 29%. 4-5 years ago it was even worst, like in the 15% range.

I don't know if they take more of a Social Science aspect of history at UCB. But whether or not history is a social science is a hot topic at every institution.

Kal: yea i'm a history major. I received income verification paperwork from Cal financial aid. So i'm kind of counting on getting in there. If I don't, I will be looking for the closest tall building I can find.

Torrance I see your point. When I consider the competitiveness of the major with some of the stats from statfinder it seems a lot of the people I know applying to UCB surprisingly fall into that 50/50 category.
