UCLA & UCB Anthro Major? Impacted?

I'm at my CC and this summer is time when i'm just about complete with my "Plan C" and figure I should begin taking classes towards fulfilling my major.

I still don't have a set major but am highly considering Anthropology and am wondering if that major is harder to get into at UCLA & UC Berkeley.

Like I mentioned, I still don't have a set major but have been weighing options with: Anthropology or Sociology.

Thanks!

antrho and sociology is both not that hard for UCLA and for UCB is in the social science department so it's competitive. 20-25percent admit rate!

BA or BS?

my friend got into UCLA Anthropology BA with a 3.26 GPA. attends SMC, finished pre-req's, IGETC and has no EC's. She works, but not full time.

I hope that helps.

Is there much of a difference between BA and BS? Is this only at UCLA?

So UCLA would be easier to get accepted than UCB? (In regards with the Anthro major)

anthro and sociology both are easier to UCLA.. BS you have to take 1year gen chem 1year physics 1year bio and half a year o-chem... and antrho classes. it's mostly for pre-med/pre-dental student. I am pre-dental student so i choose BS. BS has more pre-req to do.!

hey torrencecali

so just to make sure with a BA I wouldn't need those extra classes. I wouldn't mind taken them but aside from never being that on the ball with bio and chem, i'm not that hooked on the matter. And i'm not looking to go in the med/dental field.

So BA would be best for me i'm assuming?

Thanks a lot TorrenceCali appreciate it

one last thing since i got ya:

i'm just about done with the IGETC, only having like 2 more classes to complete but won't be available till Fall.. so for this summer i'm trying to decide what i should look for when deciding on classes.

No antro classes are being offered

so, so far i'm choosing classes like screenwriting 241 and sociology 225(homicide).

Is this wise or should I be looking to sign up for different classes? Perhaps more closely related to Anthro or what?

listen you don't have to take any anthro related classes.
Just take 3 classeshysical anthro, cultural anthro, archaeology and you will be fine. what anthro class is not offered at your school?

3 Anthro classes are being offered for this coming summer semester.

anthropology 100-cultural anthro: which i've already taken

anthro 115 i can take and will satisfy Area 5 section B of the IGETC though to be fulfilled should be taken with a lab, and the lab isn't offered this summer so i'm screwed there. I can just wait for the fall for this one. Though my main plan here is to take Astronomy 102 w/ Lab and therefore be able to take this anthro 115 class without the lab.

and finally Anthro 299 "directed studies" which is the 1st time i've ever seen this class offered. There is no class number listed either, i'm assuming this is an online class maybe? It just states "18.0 HRS ARR"

that's it in the Anthro category.

jthisis my suggestion. don't take any non-related classes. Just finish yor IGETC,pre-req(anthro or socio), have at least 60units, and decent essay then you are good. end.

I would just like to point out that you don't need a BS to go into healthcare. It would have been smarter to just do the BA so that you aren't required to take all the pre/med/dent/pharm etc courses all at once. Think of it as a failsafe.

student14x- yah you don't have to but you should because you have to take all the science class to go to med school anyways.

What I'm saying is that you can take the BA degree so that you are under no obligation to complete the specified pre-health science classes. This way you have the option to spread them out throughout all 4 years and not have to stress about it as much.
