college: ucsd
major: mathematics (general)
gpa: will be a 3.5 after fall quarter 08...but i have a good trend
1st quarter: 3.075 (yeah, i f***ed up here)
2nd quarter: 3.6 (taking 3 upper div math classes)
3rd quarter: 3.6-3.8 (somewhere in there for sure)
4th quarter 3.5-3.8 (i think, based on the classes)
all prereqs already done for major
will have ge reqs done by spring quarter next year
i will have taken 7 upper division math classes by spring quarter

i am also double majoring in management science at ucsd, and would like to double major in math and econ at berkeley, but since it is capped (econ) i figure i should apply to berk as a math major, and then once im there apply as an econ major (if i'm lucky enough to get in).

so any suggestion on what i can do to better my chances? and i know its kind of pointless, but chance me? lol

I thought math was a relatively easy major to get into for Cal? I could be wrong though.

He's a four year though.. Less than stellar GPA..

yeah, my gpa is relatively low. it is just barely in the bottom 25% of those accepted. but the main point of the gpa is to see how you do in the prereq classes so the admissions oficers can decide if you will succeed in the major. fortunately, i have aced almost all of my upper division math classes, so i show that them i am an excellent applicant for a math major. plus the #3 thing cal considers is grade trends. and that's exactly what i have. so i was really inclined to think i have a decent shot...but who knows....(and yes berkeley transfer rate to math major acceptance rate is like 50%, so maybe it's like 30% from uc to berk). i want to get in really badly

i want to leave ucsd because cal is known for having a strong math department (and pretty much every other department, lol). and they also have a great economics program. and i can graduate in 3.5 years from cal with a double major easily (the way the classes i have taken at ucsd work). and it is better for my career. originally i was planning on going straight to grad school, but i want an mba now. and most mba programs want work experience. if i'm gonna work straight out of college, i will have better opportunities graduating from berk then ucsd. not even because cal is SOOO much better, but most companies tend to place higher recognition on cal.
