CAL Housing

For those of you living on-campus, where will you guys be staying and why?

Are transfers students limited to certain units and residence hall? Or may we choose any one that's available? Are we going to be mixed in the the freshmen?

So how does CAL housing work? i know all transfers automatically gets listed as off-campus, does this change once we apply for housing? How likely is it to get our first-choice, and how likely is it to get it through appeal?

thanks!

You will most likely end up in the suites with other transfers and a few freshmen

I suggest getting an apartment, on campus housing is hella expensive

Transfers are not limited in their choice of housing. But, only Wada in unit 2 is specifically designed for transfer students. If you are in any other building, you will be probably be mixed in with Freshmen. I hear that the mini-suites also have a fair amount of transfers, but also plenty of sophomores.

Once you get your housing, you will have to submit an appeal form in order to have your financial aid changed to on-campus. The process is fairly simple, so its nothing to worry about now. However, if you get an on-campus apartment such as Wada, you will still be considered off-campus for the purposes of financial aid.

I would highly suggest filing an appeal if you don't get the housing you prefer. Many people I know got into Wada through appeal. I think appeals are so successful because many people apply for housing as a backup, and then turn down their offers when they get their own apartments. This is a little known fact-- so take advantage of it!
