OK, so I just got rejected by Berkeley. I want to become a writer for TV, and it somehow seems like I should have applied to UCLA because it really feels like the place where aspiring TV writers should be. I recently went to a WGA writers panel discussion and many of the writers had gone to either UCLA or USC for their degrees.

I asked one of the writers in the panel (who is a writer on "Family Guy") which school he thought was better for an aspiring television writer: Berkeley or UCLA, and he said UCLA because it is in the middle of where the industry is. Unfortunately, I decided I didn't want to stay in LA to go to school, so I didn't apply to UCLA, which now I regret.

So, just to get some opinions, what do you guys think? Is Berkeley the best place for wannabe TV writers, or UCLA?

I could still appeal to Berkeley if it really is that great of an English program there, but for some reason, UCSD's Writing program still doens't sound all that promising (where I'm probably going since it's the only UC I got in at).

Considering the area, I'd say UCLA. Seems to me that there may be more opportunities for networking in that industry if you're in LA.

UCLA without a doubt. Not only is it in the area, but you would be taught by people who are actually in or close to the business. Also any student festivals or showcases are much more likely to be seen by professionals if you are at UCLA (or USC) than anywhere else. There are also a lot of UCLA alumni in the business.
