holy s**t, I live in Berkeley.... Downtown Berkeley (near UCB) is a pretty shady area as well so I am not surprised.

that's really disturbing/sad/tragic.

I don't think I'll be leaving campus then..

Maybe it started over someone stepping over somebody's brand new sneakers.
Anybody remember that skit from Chappelle Show about the start of the gang war.

It's very sad to hear this, especially after I just had a close friend pass away at Berkeley. For her though, she wasn't involved in any altercations. In her case, they think she had a seizure in her sleep. She was also very stressed out since this was her first semester at Cal and finals were coming up.

Word of advice to EVERYONE headed for their 1st semester @ a UC: balance your studies with a social life. My friend was studying pretty much all the time and didn't take her social life into account. I just wish I had gone up to visit her sooner. I kept telling her over the phone and email to go out every once in a while, but she was very stubborn and was way too concerned about her studying. She was doing fairly well, getting B+'s on her papers and tests, but she was really pushing herself for A's. So, don't get too hung up about your grades.

Still, this case is just a reminder that violence can really occur on any college campus, so just be careful.

Yeah a good friend of mine is up there and it happened right outside of her apt.
I called her after I got in to tell her the good news but she hung up on me because she was talking to the police at the time...

She is in Chi Omega and heard the whole thing happen...

You should ask her what happened.
