W on a transcript

I'm a senior at high school and also attending a local cc as a part time student. Right now theres just too much things going on in my life and i need to petition to drop one of my ge classes (psych 102). I am super worried about the W on my transcript and how this would affect my admission to UCLA or UCB. Do you guys think one W would affect my admission to uc's and does the community college committee usually accept a petition this late like around the end of a semester.? thanks you

As an incoming freshman: Call them up and ask or try the campus forums. (Cal should have a link to a contact form to your admissions officer on myBerkeleyApp.)

As a prospective transfer: One W will *not* hurt you. I've lost count, but I know I have over five on my transcript. UCLA didn't take me, but Cal did.

Community colleges have a cut off date for when you can petition for a W. If your semester ends around May 20th- end of may that deadline has most likely passed.

go to your community college website and look up the academic calendar for the semester it will say something like "last day to drop course with W"
The drops are always approved without having to do anything on your part except fill out the petition before the deadline.

You are not a transfer so i can not comment on how a W would affect you as a high school student. I know for transfers no one cares. I had 19w's i went to UCLA.

As a high school student you should contact your school and ask them directly, by your school i mean the one you are going to attend in the fall. But check the deadline for the W option first.

Ok you guys i still win with my 19 but in either case he / she is not a transfer student so you never know how they might feel about high school students having the Ws . It is MUCH harder to get in from high school, considering they all pretty much have over 4.0

I was sort of in the same boat. I'm a junior right now but nearing the end of my sophomore year I took a summer course which I dropped like 2 weeks later, just a few days after the cutoff to drop a class and not get a W. I've talked to many people about this, including my counselor at the CC, and they all said one, two, or even three W's aren't gonna hurt you so don't worry about it.
