looking to transfer to UCB

Looking to transfer to UCB in 2 years, from another UC. How hard is this? What sort of GPA is needed for a realistic shot? Any success/failure stories anyone would care to share?

Does UCB focus mainly on GPA or essays or E.Cs for transfer admits?

Any input appreciated, thanks!

I'm sure you know that it is harder to transfer from UC to UC. What is your major?

I got in to UCB transferring from UCSB.

3.79 GPA.

Applied as Peace and Conflict Studies major but changing to Political Science (taking a class this summer to catch up with the major).

I'm a CCC student admitted to UCB Fall 08 in Computer Science. From the peers in my Data Structures II class, I can say that if you have a 3.7 or above, you will have a really good shot at getting accepted (if you are transferring from CCC).

I had a 3.91 GPA, few ECs, strong essay. Seeing as you are going to transfer from UC to UC, you will probably need something very close to 4.0 GPA, complete most or all of your major prereqs, ECs probably don't matter, and make sure you have a strong essay.

Side Note: Why are you choosing to go to UCD if you are planning to transfer to UCB? It would be a lot easier to go to a CCC and transfer to a UC. I anticipate that your answer will have something to do with your parents thinking that a CCC is a synonym for failure.

i transferred from UCLA to UCB... or rather, i will be attending UCB next fall. I TOO am taking a few classes to catch up with my major (doubling in development studies and political science).

remmert-- you taking PS 3 next fall? sounds soooo exciting.

I went to UC Davis out of high school, hated it, went back home to community college, and am at UCLA now and loving it.

It was nice having a freshman experience and all, but if I did it again, I would go straight to community college. Seriously, don't settle.

you'll save a lot of money
ccc and part time employment make students more mature and prepared for whatever route you choose to take

HLS -- yeah I'll be taking PS 3 (does NOT look fun at all!) and one of the American history classes specified on the UCB Poli Sci website during the Fall.

Do you really think PS 3 looks fun or are you being sarcastic? 'Cause I know some people who actually DO think that stuff is interesting :\

What are your views on moving from a quarter system to a semester system? (I kinda think it's gonna suck).

How hard is that to do, assuming you take a reasonable courseload?

Also, are E.C.s a big deal too?

Considering that people with 3.6 and under from my community college got rejected in Computer Science, I would say that you need something above 3.90.

I can't say how difficult the classes will be at UC Davis. But at a community college, 12-15 units is not that difficult, considering you mix it up between major prereqs and GEs.

EC is not a big deal, but I'm sure if you have a considerable amount of ECs then it will help you alot. For example, I have a friend with a 3.2 that has many ECs that got accepted to UCLA as a Chemistry major.
