I plan to stay in Manzanita Village. As for social characteristics of each residence hall, I would say its impossible to find out out because it changes from year to year because of the students that make up each building.

My first choice is San Rafael because it has the transfer-living thing (lol I don't know the proper term for it haha), and second choice is Manzanita because it's the other res hall that houses second-years and transfers. I do know that Manzanita also houses freshmen, which is why my first choice is San Raf. Everyone I've told this too who already goes to UCSB has pointed out that both of these halls are really close to the Carillo Dining Commons, so I guess that's a big deal too lol.

Has everyone who's transferring to UCSB joined the facebook group? Haha yes, I'm totally trying to recruit...

anacapa, san nicolas, san miguel, santa cruz, santa rosa etc. are all just dorm halls on campus with smaller sized rooms and communal bathrooms. living in the dorms is good for the social aspect but it's such a party school you might as well just live in IV, or else you will only get one year in IV which would suck.

For the summer my plan is to live in the university apartments (Santa Ynez/El Dorado) and then my first choice for the school year is San Rafael, because of that transfer-living theme thing already mentioned in this thread.

Yeah, I am confussssed too! For summer I think I'm going to live in Santa Ynez. . . but I don't know about for Fall. I know it's probably better for social aspect to live in the residence halls (also I hear they're newer and nicer) . . .but I really want a kitchen and living room! Also what's the major differences btwn. Santa Ynez and El Dorado?

anacapa: freshmen
san nicolas: freshmen
san miguel: freshmen
santa cruz: freshmen
santa rosa: freshmen
manzanita: half freshmen, [about] half sophomores, some transfers [I live here -- it's the BEST!]
san rafael: TRANSFERS, lots of "suites" meaning 4, 6, or 8 people. [but you still only share your ROOM w/ one other person].
santa catalina: freshmen



El Dorado Apartments: not sure

Santa Ynez Apartments: sophomores, transfers [but kinda far out of the way]

Westgate Apartments: not sure

Is it bad to live with a freshmen? (i'm a transfer student)

i prefer to live on campus hall.. i consider san rafael and manzanita as my priority.. should i put apartment or other halls as the next priority?

Any transfers or non-freshman lives or has lived with freshmen? how was it?

yeah i would prefer manzanita for the fall just becuase tis the newest and has a beach view, depending on which room you get. Also manzanita is more of a traditional style dorm. My second choice would be san raf becuase its all transfers i guess, not really into the suite style but wouldn't mind it, but not sure living with more people in a suite is a good thing? Maybe i can get better idea if i can see the dorms on the 16th or something.

Me and a few of my friends are renting a house in Irvine and it was the best decision I made. Living in a house is way better than dorms or apartments. I've been looking at rentals in the Santa Barbara area that rents to students. Has anyone heard of Willow Creek? Seems legit -http://www.willowcreekgoleta.com/
