| Went to UCSD transfer admit day And it kind of bummed me out. I was psyched to go to UCSD, but the whole vibe I got was: "were not boring we swear.... no really, people will talk to you if you talk to them"
And when they spoke about the econ dept. they had no idea what they were talking about. I know it is a good major/curriculum w/ good professors, but come on.... For a day that was intended to get people to go to that university, I totally got turned off.... I guess coming from CU Boulder (a very enthusiastic school), its just different. |

| Hey,
I was there as well, and I did go to the econ talk as well, I couldn't agree with you more on all the points you made. People asked questions, including myself, and they couldn't really answer it. Or if they tried to answer it, they'd completely beat around the bush. I asked a question about internship opportunities and they say "if you try to get one, you can get one.." um...no ****, and things like "you have to go see the career services center."
Yeah, I got the same exact vibe as you did. I guess it didn't help that I toured UCLA yesterday, but while UCSD was really nice, it didn't seem to match ME as well as UCLA did. (FYI: It's a tough decision for me because my majors are different at both schools (Math-Econ @ UCLA vs Management Science @ UCSD)).
Anyways...when you say "For a day that was intended to get people to go to that university, I totally got turned off..." I don't have anything else to say but EXACTLY. The transfer admit day really lacked energy and enthusiasm from all the little meeting/discussions I went to, the biggest thing I got from it was "you can just look at it on our website." So I pretty much flew down for just the tour, which was actually helpful.
Gah...I guess this was a rant. I was expecting so much more. |

That sounds like something a CCC counselor would say when you ask a question. |

| I really liked the campus! On another note, yes you were right, the whole process seemed a little forced. I mean really, how could they totally neglect taking students by the archictectually-brilliant library? It was breathtaking! My friend and I went to the top floor, and the view was amazing.
The new Price-Center looks great at night, and I hear UCSD is usually bustling with good looking girls everywhere. I believe scheduling the transfer admit day on Mother's Day Weekend really did the campus injustice.
So, some good news: I submitted my SIR!
Now, just waiting on USC lol
Please don't let one impression lead to your final decision, it's very hard to judge a campus in its entirety in one, 6 hour block. The graduate-level Economics department is absolutely stellar and has Nobel-Prize winning professors. I wish they had mentioned that to everyone else lol. |

| they gave a lot of good information about housing and roommate stuff there...I still have a lot to consider, but they helped a lot...
and just remember that ALL new transfers are on the same boat with the housing. We are all looking for apartments and we all need roommates, so you are definitely not alone. |

| Hey, just got back from a 9 hour drive from SD. Went to Admit Day; was some what informative, but almost nothing was new news other than the one question I had that someone on this forum also had a questions about:
"If you are in Thurgood College, does IGETC articulate GE?"
Yes it does, but you need to take 2 outside upperdiv courses that are not within your major's category. Since I'm a Sociology major, I can't take any fromt he Social Sciences, such as Econ, Poli Sci, Comm, etc.
That means with the 12 upper divs I need to complete + 1 prereq + 2 unrelated, I only have a total of 15 courses to take once I'm there. |

| "and I hear UCSD is usually bustling with good looking girls everywhere."
Lol, thats a good one.... I have been to the campus like 5 times now, and have not seen ONE really good looking girl. Its messed up. I told my parents I heard rumors about no hot girls at UCSD, and they said "there have to be some, just maybe not as many as at Boulder"... Then two hours into walking around the campus my dad said "Son, maybe you should live downtown, you can meet some good looking girls down there" haha, so even my parents agree. I probably sound like a shallow A-hole right now, but I would like to go somewhere where I will truly be happy, and that is a major contributing factor. So right now I am just really hoping I get into USC.... Praying rather.....
But if I do go to UCSD, does anyone know if any students live downtown? I really like the gaslamp area, and am looking into getting a loft down there. |

| downtown is a bit far from la jolla. Mostly in terms of students in downtown it would be the SDSU crowd.
How do you plan on getting to class, if you are going to drive your car then no problem. San Diego doesnt have the best bus system for getting into la jolla, you can do it with transfers and all but it would be lame.
If you are willing to drive i dont see a problem, you can live anywhere.
My friend lives in La Mesa and drives to UCSD- so it is not an issue aside from some traffic and UCSD doesnt have a huge campus life so you will not be missing much, you will have more fun in the gaslamp |

| ^ haha that's funny
I've never heard of it tho
is it really that bad?
I met a couple of good looking girls at UCSD
I think there are just way too many people
it's hard to find "good looking" girls in a crowd that big
i'm a girl btw |
