I didnt even apply to Cal- had no interest. My point was that work and CC are doable.

My CC elects student government B4 fall. But you can also vote online so i guess if as a freshmen you went in the summer you could vote online that summer.

My school (regular semester system) held elections two weeks ago.

I think they elect for different things at different points in the term, some things in the summer, some in the fall, some in spring, sort of to give everyone a chance to participate, i know we do not have just 1 election. The big election for Pres/VP is not in the summer- i think it was also roughly two weeks ago- sometime in the spring. I do not attend my CC - i just take an online class there for fun so i get random emails about ASG.

Just curious but how are people normally nominated for pres, vp, etc. and what is the best way to garner the most votes for election? Charisma? Haha...

I remember some girl was passing out muffins with pins from class to class. Was a bit odd being that it wasnt high school

I think DeAnza just had an election. Would that be considered before incoming freshmen of Fall 08 coming in?

First of all, I'm confused, are you still at CC or going to Cal in the fall? Sorry, I haven't been keeping up with all of the posts in the past week or so.

I have been working 8:30-5:30 M-F in an office and taking night, Saturday or online classes the entire time I've been at CC. Most semesters I have taken 2 classes, but some I only took one, especially if the class was two nights per week (math or science). This semester I am taking 3 (9 credits total), which I have to admit is just fine, and I can kick myself for not taking more classes before. If you are still at CC, I say it is completely do-able to work in an office full time, but it might take you a bit longer to finish your credits, or it might make you a bit crazier if you take a full load of credits.

I do not plan to continue working full time while at Cal because the work load at Cal will be a lot tougher. Not only that, but it doesn't look like Cal really offers night classes. If they do, they are very rare. I believe they offer a few online classes, though online classes can sometimes be more time consuming than regular classes. I am basically sick of night classes and not getting home until 10-11pm when I do have a class after work.

If you are going into Cal this fall (or anytime, really), don't get discouraged before you meet with a Career Center counselor. I am sure that there are internships and part-time jobs that will fulfill your need for work experience and also allow you to go to school. Also, if you have been accepted to Haas (am I reading into that correctly?), your major advisor will probably have some input as to what kind of jobs or internships you should strive for. There are campus jobs that would give you some experience as well; for instance, my friend who works in HR at Cal told me that they usually hire one or two students each semester.

If you are still going to be at CC, you might want to visit your CC's career center since they can probably also help you find internships or part time jobs that would be relevant to what you want to major in.
