transferring to berkeley as an OOS

I started another thread before by i didn't want to spend the time to dig it up so i'm just going to re-ask my questions

1) how much will hs gpa matter for junior OOS transfers? (mine is around 2.0...)
2) if I choose not to submit the SATs will I more than likely get rejected?
3) my intended major is molecular bio, what should I do in terms of ec's to help my chances?
4) what should my essays be about given my current position?

I am not in college yet (will be attending in the fall) so i don't have any college stats yet.

1) GPA is very important in the transfer process, if you do not have a high GPA, your chance of getting accepted is considerably lower. just think about it, transfering is a lot harder than getting accepted and spots for transfer is less and nvm you'll see...

btw...you sound like someone from my school, if you are and going to clarkson, please come to the media center during MOD 7.

If you really want to attend Berkeley I suggest you put yourself in the best possible position to be accepted. Transferring from OOS (out of state) is not the best possible situation you can put yourself in. Moving to California now and attending two years of a California community college is the best thing you can do for yourself in terms of being admitted to Berkeley.

1) High school GPA matters not for junior transfers.
2) Junior transfers do not need to submit SAT scores. I don't even think you could if you wanted to.
3) Volunteer at your local hospital doing research (a MCB friend of mine did and she was admitted to Cal)
4) I'd wait to be sure what the prompts are before starting my essay just yet.

RE: the essay prompts-
you will probably be safe if you prepare for questions along the line of

What is your intended major? Discuss how your interest in the subject developed and describe any experience you have had in the field — such as volunteer work, internships and employment, participation in student organizations and activities — and what you have gained from your involvement.

Prompt #2 (all applicants)
Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud and how does it relate to the person you are?

the prompts stay pretty similar to these year to year.
