Summer School BruinCard Frustration

Ok, I know that not many people on here are going to Session A for UCLA summer school.

But those that have or will, do you guys know what the hell is going on with the BruinCard?

The BruinCard center told me that I can NOT have my card before my orientation (July 28th) and that I don't NEED one for summer. Um, I'm sorry, how am I suppose to get into the dorm? Eat my meals? Get into the library? Summer school STARTS June 23rd... I'm going to assume that I kiiiind of need it before then?

They told me that many transfer students have gone to summer school and did not need a BruinCard. Yet the lady on the phone, UCLA called yesterday, told me that she was a transfer student as well and when she went to summer school, she just called the BruinCard center and they let her get her card early.

I've been e-mailing the center and they keep telling me "No way in hell."

Can someone possibly give me a straight answer? lol. Anyone dealt with this before??

When you mailed your signed BruinCard Terms & Conditions form did you check in the 'Summer Session Student' checkbox?

ah, i just called them, 3rd time today.

They told me that a list of summer students just came out and i can go to Sproul hall on June 22nd to pick up my BruinCard.

This is the same guy that told me I can't have it, under any circumstances...

bah, well, at least it's settled.

Thanks for offering advice, guys. =)

I'm also enrolled for session A, and I was able to pick up my card a couple days ago in the office in Kerkhoff Hall.

I'm enrolled in intensive Chinese and I'll be living in the university-owned apartments.

I was so reluctant to pay $1900 for 9 weeks of housing that I considered buying a bus pass and commuting for 5 hours a day, but at last I caved in!

yeah. i hear you!

I'm taking two classes and after factoring in the mileage from my car (not very good, I drive an SUV of sorts) and my class schedule, I will be paying for gas through the nose. But I figured if I am going to live on/near campus, I'm not going to bother with cooking. So I'm living ON campus in Reiber Hall, meal plan and all.

I considered the on campus options, but the meal plans added up to something like $24/day. I am trying not to deplete my savings since I don't know what my final financial aid package will look like, so I'd rather use my poor cooking skills or eat the dollar menu at Burger King. I'm sad that the closest grocery stores to UCLA are Whole Foods and Ralphs, with no Hispanic supermarket or Food4Less that I know of.

Natchez, I am in the intermediate section, but there is a chance I may get passed down to elementary since I'm rusty in speaking (my last Chinese class was 3 years ago).
