What the hell??? I mean hi everyone (UCLA housing)

hello people. i'm new here so if i'm posting in the wrong place, do be gentle. i got my ucla housing offer today. i had applied for: Single - One occupant,
Studio - One occupant, Two-bedroom - 2 occupants, Three-bedroom - 3 occupants, and parking. this is the offer i got:
ONE BEDROOM/THREE PERSONS (MARGAN APARTMENTS), No parking available
i mean could this offer get any crapier. i thought since i was a transfer student (harder classes etc), i'd get better offers. anyways what are your thoughts.

look on the bright side, you didn't get the hiligard houses!

look at "D" dorm... it's a good example.

basically, you're living in a dorm that's off campus. it's awfully cramped.

here's the Margan apartments... farthest away from UCLA =/

but the floor plan isn't so bad. Maybe 3 people in one studio/suite isn't so bad. You get a kitchen.

Hey, B Suite isn't bad... but I can imagine that the D room people will want to kick your ass, LOL

You got that because you applied to the housing that everyone wanted. You should have put at least 2 one bedroom 2 occupants.

you forgot about room c (ideal). anyways i might just commute back and forth since i live ~25 miles away but i'll have to take morning traffic into consideration not mentioning the fact that i will probably have parking problems there (just like i did at my cc).

well what do you expect living in westwood? they are going to sardine as many of you as they can. good luck looking off campus instead.... just remember, driving around on the westside is akin to having your testicles stepped on by fat chicks.

student- if you are honestly thinking of pulling that commute you are very brave and insane... you are going to waste a LOT of your study/downtime sitting in traffic. not to mention just how exhausting sitting in traffic day after day can get. good luck tho.

25 miles in that traffic is pretty bad... I'm not from the area, but from what I've seen, it doesn't look fun at all. Especially during rush hour..yeesssh

Be prepared for an hour of sitting in traffic, most likely more, MAYBE less.

it's murder pretty much right up to the 10 Split. Sadly, UCLA is way before the 10 split. I also do not bode well with traffic. Occasionally, yes, but not every day.

I live out in the valley, Calabasas area, and seriously, I don't understand people that come home everyday or commute from home. they must REALLY love their home.

HOWEVER, in light of recent gas hikes, the roads from Calabasas to UCLA are apparently clear! I know someone that works at the medical center and makes the commute everyday, his mother told my mom that the roads are empty and it takes him 20 minutes to get there, at most.

I say that's crazy!

well google maps reports a drive time of about 30 minutes (an hour during rush hours). anyways i will have to make a couple of morning trips to ucla just to get a sense of how things are. but if it's only a 30 minute drive, then it's totally worth it. i mean just think about it you get the privacy and comfort and did i mention privacy of your home AND save a few grands.

i'm the last child in my family (two older siblings) and the words "privacy" doesn't mean much. my siblings may be gone, but the years of living with two psychopaths still remains fresh in the mind. as long as my roommate doesn't jump on top of me and start hitting me in my sleep, take my laptop without telling me or use my clothes as "rags" for their art projects... i'll be just fine. =)

saving money, i understand. essentially, i'm paying money to make friends and meet new people. correction, my DAD is paying money for me to make friends and meet new people. i'm a lucky sonova***** and i count my blessing everyday (or every other day, i can forget =/)

i hope everything works out for you and your commute doesn't break your spirit! maybe you can find a girlfriend/boyfriend at UCLA and just sleep at their place! hahaha. jk (or am i?)

Commuting is doable if you leave at certain times of the day or possibly consider UCLA vanpools or the metro. BUT, you will be missing out on a lot of the social aspects of campus. I too will be commuting in the fall, but not by choice. Unfortunately I can't afford to live on campus, therefore it is going to be that much harder to make new friends at UCLA. Think long and hard about your decision before you make it.
